Lower Factory Fog Lights

Recommended Posts

Has anybody removed these factory lights and put a real driving light in it's place?

Just wondering what was put in and how hard it was too mount.

IMO the factory lights are pathetic ,

it would be nice too have something aftermarket that would actually put some real light on the road?

They are good for their intended purpose - FOG. Brighter is not always better.

But a little brighter would be better. How far could one go without a bad compromise in the fog/heavy snow??

It would just be nice too have the lights put some light out in front further than the 2 feet

in front of the truck they do now.

I just don't want too drill holes in the bumper for some driving lights as i would rather just replace the factory ones with something better and not have it look like they don't belong there?

i felt the same way you did but i just ordered some Nokia Xenon bulbs for my foglights and hopefully they are brighter. its hard to find aftermarket bulbs for the gm foglights

Is this a bulb that just plugs in in place of the stock bulb? can you provide more details ? pics too if you can?

Model number of the bulbs?

thanx

I found some high quality replacement lights for the ford that go in place of the oem fog lamps but nothing for the GM yet?

How about upgrading your headlights to HID's? You'll light up the road much better using less wattage. They may even have some HID's for your fog lights too! Search this site...http://www.hidxenonheadlights.com/

The HID head lights for your truck is $79.99, that includes entire kit and is a very very simple plug n play application. But I would recommend also upgrading the headlight lense if you do decide to do the head lights. You'll get a much better projection on the HID's.

If you mis spelled it and meant to say "NOKYA", then those are some garbage bulbs. I bought a set of supposedly high wattage xenon bulbs made by Nokya. They were just some cheap ass bulbs that were painted blue! Yes paint! I put one in and turned on the lights and my stock bulb was twice as broght as that crap. All it does is puts off a ricer looking blue color, as far as more light its useless. They are actually less bright than the stock bulbs, even though they are higher wattage. WTF?

I personally don't have an interest in putting a HID bulb into a Halogen headlamp as all it does is create a splatter beam that blinds oncoming drivers but that is just my own opinion. And I am too cheap too put real HID headlamps in the truck.

So i will settle for some decent driving lights if i can find some that will go into the factory fog light location.

I had my HID's in my OEM lenses and they didn't bother any incoming traffic at night. They did light up the road 100% better then the halogens. Then my projection lenses came a few days later and I installed those and they improved the lighting by 300%. I don't even have to use my hi beams any longer, the HID's and the projection lenses are a very good investment.

Curious, what did the whole set up cost you?

I put HID's in my 07 NBS Sierra in the main lights and was "WOWED" by the difference. I recently bought...off Ebay, from the HIDGUY, a set of 5202 xenon lights with slim ballasts, plug and play for $50 plus $20 shipping...in other words $70. I am thrilled with the light output. $70. Not a bad price!! Did it in 1/2 an hour late at night. Couldn't wait til' daylight! It does not evoke "flashing by other motorists". I coerced my wife into driving towards me on a main road to see if it irritated her vision and it did not! Believe me...she would be the first to complain about it!

I paid $79.00 for the HID kit "5000 k" including ballasts, and $180.00 for the Halo LED projection headlights. The Halo LED projections I got i had to do a little bit of wire cutting and stripping. Very easy to get Halos and LED's to work, just remove parking bulb and splice into the wires on each side. Then to put in HID bulbs, there is a rubber cap that is used behind the headlights, so with the HID's in, I had to cut two wires and wire them to the HID's light wiring and then refeed them through the rubber cap. All in all, it is a fairly easy install to do. At first the LED Halo projection lens look like they will not allow the HID bulb to fit. They recommend you can use up to a 6000k HID bulb in them, I got the 5000k which produces a nice white light with a little bit of very light blue. The higher you go, the more blue or purple they become. Then adjusting the HID's in the projection lens takes some time and you most likely will find yourself playing around with it for at least an hour or more.

I had to readjust mine several times, cause I was not happy with where the light was aiming. I aimed mine just slightly lower then what my hi beams project. It does not blind anyone, mainly because I'm using a 5000k probably and I alos adjusted the beam to project well off to each side, so when driving down the road I am illuminating the entire road and a good 25 fit or so to the right and left of the road so I could easily see any deer that want to make a last minute bolt across the road. I also want to replace my lower lenses with the matching set, but I have hidden strobes in my OEM lenses, so that sort of stoped me from getting the lower lenses. I'm also going to be getting another set of the 5000k's for my Western plow lights. There should be just enough room inside the light housing to fit the wires and ballast.

Bought the LED Halo Projections from - http://www.xtralights.com/index.asp?PageAction=CHECKOUTMSG

IMHO, this is money well worth spent! You will see a huge improvement at night and use less watts too!
