hey guys, i recently got a espar coolant heater installed in my 08 gmc sierra 1500 gas and after running the heater when it was cold i went out to start the truck and in the DIC read "engine hot a/c turned off". the truck still started and ran fine but, the temp gauge showed no tempature and the DIC still read the samething. the next day i didn't use the espar coolant heater and everthing is normally temp gauge worked perfect and no message in the DIC, so i phone the company that installed it for me and he said to bring it to gm and get the perameters moved higher on the coolant temp sensor so i did, went to gm and they told me that they can't do that, but i took it as they have no clue how to do it lol. does anyone no how to get around this problem????????

thanks marcel

Its not a problem, just a message to let you know whats going on. The A/C is for air idle control...Not air conditioning if that's what your thinking.

A/C or AIC is used to keep the engine at a higher rpm until the engine warms up a little. It allows the right amount of cold dense air into the engine with the throttle plate shut, during idle so it doesn't stall. This is for cold starts.

Japanese engines use a cold start injector to accomplish this...Ford uses an air idle control valve on the side of their intake plenum and an air path beside the throttle plate that runs through the plenum to the valve. Chev uses something similar, but its not a big honkin valve, its just built into the TB I believe, or it was on older engines. Think of it as kind of a choke for fuel injection.
