12" Suspension?

Hey there, I'm thinking of doing a 10-12" (or possibly more if possible) suspension lift on my 88' jimmy, and eventually regearing to match the bigger tires. The only problem is that I can't seem to find any sites or companies that sell this year/model. Does anyone know af a good place to find this? If I can't find anything, I might see if I can find 3/4 or 1 ton axles to put under it and see where that takes me. Thanks in advance.

It's becoming harder to find kits for older trucks. Companies are making kits for newer vehicles because there are just more people wanting that. I take it your Jimmy is a full size Jimmy? If so, pickup a subscription to Four Wheeler or Four Wheel and Offroad and read up. Also, in the back of these mags are plenty of companies that specialize in these parts. Here is a link or two for you.

Me and my buddy put a 14" lift in his 78 jimmy. It consisted of an 8" lift, with a 2" add-a-leaf and 4" blocks because the bigest thing he could find was an 8".

Having said that....unless you are just using if off-road this may be too much lift. His truck is hard to drive, it doesn't track straight at all..we had to do a high steer kit due to the fact that the drag link was buckling while we turned the wheels...stopped or at speed. He has 40' tires on there...with 4.56 gears and it does 0-60 in about 3 weeks with a pretty stout 350 in there. We've torn up the turbo 350 trans twice and snapped the front drive shaft quite a bit more...even with strange u-joints in there.

the law where we are is that the center of your headlights are to be no more than 4 feet high to the center. His truck is 4'8" to the center...so now we have to put driving lights in the bumper, and disable the headlights so they cannot be turned on on the streets.

The truck has become a huge nightmare to work on, as every time we get something fixed...some other law comes out saying we have to change something else. Plus it is the biggest heat score you have ever seen...they love pulling it over and trying to give him a vehicle inspection ticket.

Moral of the story is....make sure you want this big of a lift before you do it. Not only will your truck be huge...but it will be a huge pain in your ass.
