2007 Sierra Crew 4x4 - Tow Package?

Looking at buying a 2007 Sierra SLE Crew 4x4 Z71 and wanted to know what the factory tow package comprised of. Did GM offer liquid transmission cooling? Can someone please help explain what was offered and what exactly happens when the button is engaged on the side of the wheel shifter?

Also is it true that all 5.3L V8 engines have active fuel management and gas is feeding 4 of the 8 cylinders when the truck is not working hard?

Finally what is "Hill Ascent Control". Advertised but never heard of this feature before.

Can anyone help with this?

The Z-71 package is the off-road package, it MIGHT have the trans cooler, but the Z-85 is the trailering package, it will definitely have it. Best option if buying used is get the VIN, go to GM and have them print of the build sheet (they will do that). It will list every option installed. The option codes can be confusing, and if the vehicle was a special order, any additional options will be listed. Best way to confirm the equipment.

btw..if the truck has a hitch AND a trailer connector cable, it probably has a tow package and will likely have the cooler, but don't assume. The stock coolers on the gassers are not adequate, they really need to be upgraded anyway..

Z82 is the tow package, Z85 is the suspension package. The tow package will have the trans cooler frame mounted hitch and other options.

Tow haul mode

Circuit Description

Tow/haul mode enables the operator to achieve enhanced shift performance when towing or hauling a load. When tow/haul mode is selected, the tow/haul switch input signal to the body control module (BCM) is momentarily toggled to zero volts. This signals the powertrain control module (PCM) to extend the length of time between upshifts and increase transmission line pressure. Cycling the tow/haul switch again disables tow/haul mode and returns the transmission to a normal shift pattern.

Well, actually the Z-85 is the heavy duty suspension/heavy duty tow packate on the 2500HD....includes heavy duty trans cooler , and things like skid plates etc. Thats my truck. The 1500's maybe different

Z82 is THE tow package. I will look up what it comes with later, its too late tonight.

And we are discussing a 1500.

Lets see looking at the GMT800 dealer guide Z85 Suspension packsge, handling trailering heavy duty, NO other options,

Z82 Trailering equipment heavy duty includes trailer hitch platform. 7 wire harness, k47 high capicity air cleaner, KNP cooling external transmission cooler,

This is the excerpt directly from the GM ordering site for the 2500HD

"Z85Suspension Package, Handling/Trailering, heavy-duty includes 35mm twin tube shock absorbers and 36mm front stabilizer bar

Its a combination package and is standard equipment on the 2500 HD for 2010.

Z82 Trailering equipment, heavy-duty, includes trailering hitch platform and 2.5-inch receiver with 2" adapter, 7-wire harness (harness includes wires for: park lamps, backup lamps, right turn, left turn, electric brake lead, battery and ground) with independent fused trailering circuits mated to a 7-way sealed connector, wiring harness for after-market trailer brake controller (located in the instrument panel harness), (JL1) integrated trailer brake controller and single wire for center high-mounted stop lamp

1 - Also includes (G80) heavy-duty automatic locking rear differential on Retail Orders only. Not available with (ZW9) pickup box delete or (VF7) rear bumper delete.

2 - Will be deleted if (ZW9) pickup box delete is ordered

The Z82 is indeed the trailering equipment, but the Z-85 RPO for the 2500 HD, its included. Everything listed below came standard in my 2500HD in both sections and my truck build sheets lists both of these, but listed the Z-82 as option delete as z-85 code is STANDARD build for the 2500 HD duramax. I also have the G80 locker as well. You and I are essentially saying the same thing and as I mentioned before, the 1500 option groups ARE different in whats standard.

pretty much what I said, The z85 is the suspension, the Z82 is the trailering package.

The op asked about a 1500 did he not.

Also he asked about a 2007 Z71, you can't have a Z71 and a Z85 at the same time.....

Thanks man..btw..where in Tennessee are you? I do business down there in the Johnson City area (Piney flats actually) and was last there early this summer. Comming back for the Bristol NASCAR race next spring!
