1500hd Power Adding

New to the forum sorry dont have a pic of my truck up yet... Anyhow I have a 2005 GMC 1500HD an want to get more power an torque out of it reliably, I have some products that Im goin to use already, intake, mass air meter, throttle body, but want some sugestions on the power side of it.

Personally Im thinkin forced induction but not sure what to use, I like the power curve whipple produces but havent heard or cant find any reviews on it being dont to a 6.0 truck motor. Any help guys?

What's your intended use of more power and torque? I just traded in a 2002 1500Hd and for 7 years it had all of the power I needed to tow my boat, carry a load of whatever in the bed..etc. I've towed 2 campers without weight distibutions bars for short distances (less than 50 miles) with no problems. I did have a brake controller. That truck is rated for 8000lbs towing with 3.73 gears and 10000lbs with 4.10 gears.

If you add lots of power and torque, it has to make it to the pavement somehow without tearing up the transmission and rear end. If you truly need a lot more power, then maybe a 2500HD with the Duramax is in order.

I would stay away from aftermarket MAF sensors. They do nothing but try and fool the computer to dump more fuel by tricking the ECM that things are running lean. The stock GM MAF is a quality and precision piece, don't mess with it. Plus you'll gain with this mod is a lighter wallet, and you might actually loose horsepower.

Personally I'd stray away from all the little bolt ons that never really add up to much in gains. I'd save up for a REAL performance package if you want a serious increase in performance

Here's what I'd do,

full exhaust along with headers would be the first thing, I'd find shop that could build you a custom stainless system and put on a good muffler from either borla or magnaflow.

Next look and a head/cam package. You can easily gain 50hp / 0 ft lbs of torque with a package engineered for low end grunt with solid mid range power.

To top it off, get a custom tune to take advantage of all that power, and your driveablilty should not have to suffer with a good performance tune.

You will easily be able to get a reliable 50-75 hp / 50-75 ft lbs torque out of such a combo, without the complications of forced induction like you will get with the whipple supercharger.

Well the truck will eventually be built to compete in tug/pull competitions, trans will be rebuilt, re-geared, solid axle conversion, traction bars to hold the rear end in place and to the ground, custom drive shafts front an rear(rear to get rid of the split shaft that came stock, and little bit of lift to tuck some 36x15.50s...

Any little bit of power that I can get out of it, with out sprayin nitrus for the guys who will tell me to put a bottle in it, im lookin to get out of it. To be competative against moderatly modified diesels Im goin to have to be puttin at least 500hp/ft lb to the ground, which is possible just depends on how much cash Im willin to spend in the long run....

As far as exhaust goes, only thing I dont have is the headers, truck came stock with 3inch from the collectors down an the muffler was cut off for a dual 3inch in/out set up that dumps under the bed. I will look into a cam and head package so thank you for that advice.. Idealy I would love to get alot of low end grunt out of her, the more the better not lookin for top end power, just low end pull anything power.
