Factory Bluetooth

Does anyone know if it's possible to install the factory bluetooth option in a 2007 GMT900 Silverado? I'm not a big fan of aftermarket.

If so what all is involved and how much is the cost?

There are multiple topics on this. You might try searching. I don't know all of the answers, but they are there if you look. :rollin:

Possible theoretically, yes. Possible in reality, not so much. The component that would need to be changed in order to enable bluetooth on an 07-08 GMT900 is an upgrade to the new style OnStar VCIM into which the bluetooth is integrated, and add the bluetooth antenna. The parts, all told, are about $350. However, it is impossible to get the part from GM or a GM supplier directly since in order to buy a VCIM of any kind, you must provide a core exchange for the exact same part (meaning you can't just trade your non-bluetooth VCIM for one with the new functions in it).

So if you want to do this, your best and just about only bet is to look for a totaled '09 GMT900 that has the right parts in it and is being parted out. Once you've done that, a GM dealer will have to program the VCIM to the vehicle with their Tech2, and call OnStar to activate the unit in your vehicle. For the record I've been keeping my eyes peeled for months and have yet to find a donor truck to cannibalize.

So I have a 2009 with single disc and on-star, what is needed to put bluetooth in mine? Does it already have the parts and just needs steering wheel controls?

If your 2009 didn't come with Bluetooth from the factory, the same applies from my post above. The entire VCIM would have to be changed, requiring a core exchange which you can't provide.

Could someone provide a list of the part numbers that will work? I know this has been kicked around on the forum a lot before, but the numbers seem to change and it always seems like new ones are added and old ones removed. Thanks.

I'm just curious, what exactly is a core charge. I see it all the time in regards to engines and things of that nature. I just never really knew what it is. Whay is that something we cant provide? Also where does the antenna go for the blue tooth?

It means you have to trade one in to get the new one. But in this case, the one that you have to trade in has to also have had the bluetooth capability in order for you to get the new one. If you didn't get it with your vehicle when you bought it, the only ability to get one is to find one off of a wrecked vehicle. Not sure on the antenna...i think it goes where the current onstar antenna is.

Core charge = the amount of money a vendor charges in addition to the price of the new part. You get the core charge returned to you when you bring back the old part. Parts like batteries, starters. alternators, engines, transmissions and such usually have a core charge. if you don't bring back the old part, they keep the money.

That isn't how it works in this case.... it's not just a matter of paying a bit extra to get the part, it's a matter of you simply can't get one unless you give them your old one first. Not core charge, core exchange.

Antenna just goes in the dash... it's a separate part from the onstar antenna.

Oh, and here are the part numbers I have, which I did verify with a GM dealer:

vcim # 20783877

antenna # 15938939

steering wheel switch # 25851951

The steering wheel switch isn't a "required" part per-se, if you already have steering wheel controls they'll work fine. The only difference is that the switch listed here has the "phone" symbol on it next to the mute symbol, where the non-bluetooth ones just have the mute button symbol.
