Need A Little Help - '97 5.7l W/t350

My friend went to visit his Grandpa in Nashville for a month or so. His Grandpa is old school and has no internet otherwise he wouldn't ask my help but he's going to be stuck up there unless I can relay some help to him from you guys! Thanks for any help in advance!

 

He has a '97 with the 5.7l and 4 speed tranny (t350). Here's his issue with it...

 

 

R - Won't work, just whines.

 

1 - Works but whines terribly.

 

2 - Works but whines terribly.

 

3 - Works fine.

 

4 - Works fine.

 

My questions are...

 

• What tranny swap options does he have?
  
• What seems to be the issue with it?
  
• And what/how could he fix this if he can't find a tranny to swap?

The sun shell is gone and a rebuild is needed.

Either that or get a GM rebuilt tranny that comes with a 5year/60000 mile warrenty.
