Adding Rear Blocks - Should I Shim The Stops?

Recommended Posts

Got the 3" block kit to put in, and was looking at the instructions, and did a search for this with no luck.

Based on the attached picture, should I not try to maintain the factory distance "x", therefore shim the bump stopper closer to the axle in order for it to continue to function properly?

I believe as part of the capacity rating on these trucks, the stoppers do play a role in the capacity of the truck, do they not?

If the stop is moved further away from the axle (which you do when you add in a bigger block), the springs then have to carry the additional load, or flex further before the stopper begins to assist them, which they may not be designed to do???

Thoughts? I do haul a heavy load now and again, and would like to be sure the truck can handle it…

Any suggestions on how to shim up the bump-stopper? Longer bolts and washers work?…I haven’t measured but looks to be about 1 ½” increase in distance to make up between the factory blocks to the 3”….

Thanks…
