Sqeaky Leaf Springs!

My leaf springs are sqeaking like hell and im sure its the bushings so i sprayed some lubricant on the bushings and it made it worse and its driving me crazy!!! Im trying to drive around quietly while hunting and these things are horrible. Anyone know what will work to stop the sqeak? Maybe grease?

Could be you have some dirt trapped in their. I would continue lubing it though. Not sure if a constant squeeky lead spring is a warning of possible bad spring in stack. I never had any issues like this before, except maybe after some off road fun in the mud. Is it very loud?

I'm assuming it is, if you are complaining about it. Try getting lube in between each stack and see if it quiets down.

I dont think its the springs themselves i think its the bushings. I also think the oil made it worse so maube ill try some brake grease or something.

If it is like mine I have to replace several of the little round spacer insert at each end of the spring. Goes between two of the leafs. I have no idea why sometimes they pop out but do. It can either sound like a rattle or a squeak depending on the road condition. Worth a try as a cheap fix. Dealer has had them in stock each time so know I am not the only one.

when i worked in a spring shop ,the biggest problem with squeek's we had were the bolts that went through the bushings to hold the springs on . they would rust up and we would have to take them out and coat them with never seize ,the factory bolt's had a reduced shank and the rust and dust comes, the insulators between the leaves's would weare out and fall out .

what ever you do don't put any lubricant between the leaves .they work on friction ,check the clip strap's to see if they are rubbing ,if the u-bolts are loose the leaves can fan out and rub .

I had this problem. Every time I hit a speed bump, stepped in the truck, or pushed down on the rear the springs shrieked. I could feel the vibration when I held a screwdriver on the leafs. I tried lubing them with white lithium grease, but that made it worse after a couple days. Finally I jacked the truck up, used some round screwdrivers to spread the leafs, and then placed two 6" strips of a bike inner tube between the leafs/bushings (top and bottom). I don't have any noise anymore.
