Hello im new to this site. i have have a couple questions, i have an 02 silverado lt z71 which i just bought, the buttons on my onstar mirror are not lit up, the compass is on and works fine and the light on the left hand side of the mirror is lit up green. i am not subscribed to onstar but i should get an ad over the sterio when i press the onstar button which i dont, but i also own an 01 gtp with the same mirror and all these lights work on it, and the get the ad on that with no subscription. Also i have two bulbs burnt out behind the heat selector button on the dash and was told i have to buy a whole new unit worth over $300, there must be a way to replace just the bulbs??? Thanks.

I wouldn't worry about it....your onstar system is an old analog system is not functional any longer and there is no upgrade for it either. As far as the HVAC controller some guys have opened them up and replaced the bulbs....I think you'll have to solder new ones in....otherwise you can get the controller cheaper than $300 through places such as www.gmpartsdirect.com. Good luck!

+1 It should have been disconnected if the previous owner did as a letter from GM requested. Since it was analog it would no longer work. There was the possibility that the Onstar system would drain the battery by trying to phone home to Onstar central. There would be no response and it would continue to phone home until the battey died. Some older analog vehicles are able to upgraded. It goes by your VIN.

thanks alot for the quick replies, glad i found this site. while i think of it, in fwd hi and low, i can hear a whirling noise that increases with the rpm at low speeds, its not loud but its noticable. the truck has 206,000kms, my father has a 02 silverado 1500 4x4 reg cab v6 auto, manual transfer case that doesnt make any noise in fwd hi and low with the same amount of kms, mine has the autotrac transfer case, not sure if they are the same internaly or not...i gotta grease that slip yoke too, that squeak everytime i stop or begin to go is getting anoying.....

You may want to create a new post about the transfer case noise since others may not read this one because of the title.....
