Well if you are talking about Labrador Retrievers, the only difference really is their body build. English (British) labs are more of the block head heavy build dogs. The American Labs are long and lanky looking dogs.

Labrador Retreivers are easy to handle....

They like all other dogs need food, drink and a shelter where they can sleep....

I beleive the Labradors don't need all that much exercise (movement) compared to many other breeds (Rottweiler and other work-dogs) but an occasional walk is always healthy both for the Labrador and you

I don't know how your mother has been feeding her dog but usually with all good dog food (i prefer Royal Canine for both my miniature pinschers and rottweilers) there is a food chart on the side of the bag, stating how much you should feed him each day (how many servings and how much quantity for each serving) depending on the dogs weight...

Good luck with your mothers dog and hopefully she will recover fast

p.s.

good looking dog, looks like he has been well kept
