Front Bearing

Just had a metallic clicking/ringing/jingling from my front tire. Thought it was minor so went to the dealer. Turns out it was the front passenger bearing. :D No time to get the parts and attempt it myself (holiday travels). Part=$550 Labor= $150 Keeping dealer in business=priceless.

Join the club. Wheel bearings don't seem to last as long as they used to. The front left wheel bearing on my '03 Silverado Z71 extended cab went bad at 5 years and 58,300 Kilometers. Technicaly it was way over by time for the 36 Month/60,000 Km warranty but because my mileage was so low, I managed to get GM to goodwill repair it for only a $100.00 deductable. If I had just bit-the-bullet and paid without putting up a fight, it would have cost me about $870.00 and that includes a 20% GM employee parts discount. I wouldn't expect to get that kind of deal from today's Government Motors but it certainly never hurts to ask.

Cheers, lvlagnum :D

That does suck. They seem to die quicker if you run negative offset aftermarket wheels. More stress on the bearings because the wheels are further out... but the bearings aren't that great of a design if they can't handle that. I had to replace one on my last Silverado.

I've replaced both of mine. I'm sure the bigger wheels/tires aren't helping, so I can't really comment on the durability too much. All I know is that I paid the $100 deductible and had got both sides replaced at once.

replaced both of mine too, passenger round 45,000 miles and drivers side round 50,000 miles, i just bought new ones at napa and put them in myself, they were round $150 a piece for my 06 1500 4wd

Oh an I changed my brakes about a 1,000 miles ago, and with the tires off I did check for vibration by grabbing my rotors at the different spots. I usually fool around under the truck any chance I get to look things over, and as of right now I haven't seen or noticed anything

Some of them go forever and some of them don't. It's a somewhat weak design but I've seen them with 150K on them. One of mine died an early death and the other one was still going strong at nearly 100K
