Removing Vette Servo

So I am getting the clunk in the drive line and I have regreased the slip yoke with GM's lube and changed the transfer case fluid and I am still getting the clunk. I am not getting any super firm, or funny shifts though. I thought about taking out the vette servo and making sure all the o-rings and seals are seated correctly and not pinched or lined up.

 

Can I do this without tearing one of the o-rings? Do you think it's even worth it to check if I'm not having any unusual shifts or slipping?

 

As I said, I'm not getting any funny shifts or slipping and when I installed it about a year ago, everything slid in just fine without binding so I'm pretty sure that none of the seals or o-rings were pinched. If they did slip off or pinch, I would assume that I wouldn't have been able to get the servo in the housing.

 

I bought it from Oregon Performance, can you order just the seals and o-rings from the kit?

Or visit a local trans shop. They will sell them

I did. You have to stretch the O-Ring quite a bit to get it to shrink in dia and it will come out. I thought I destroyed mine when I did it, but it came right back to shape and there were no signs of damage so I re-used it. I did order a new one from Oregon Performance though, just in case it starts leaking. So far, so good. This way I will have one if I ever decide to put the stock one back in (i.e. if I sell the truck).

 

That said. OP, I seriously doubt you have any damaged or pinched seals or you would be experiencing more severe shifting issues.

I thought I destroyed mine when I did it, but it came right back to shape and there were no signs of damage so I re-used it. I did order a new one from Oregon Performance though, just in case it starts leaking. So far, so good. That part is physics. It's what marketing and bean counters do with it that is snake oil and voodoo.    Stribeck is the relationship between Hersey and the Coefficient of Friction. Within the Hersey Equation if viscosity and viscosity is 'Dependent' on.......heat.......and.......viscosity index or the temperature to viscosity slope.    Specifically Hersey is the viscosity AT THE TEMPERATURE IN THAT LOCATION FOR THAT SLOPE.   Hydrodynamic lubrication exist when the film thickness in the location is 3X the Ra roughness of the surface. This is irrespective of the hardness of the substrate. To obtain that thickness X viscosity is required for Y velocity at Z load. That's a lot of moving parts. It is also impossible to maintain in an ICE but nearly possible with a turbine under constant load.    What does that mean? Error heavy and operate light. Wear is inevitable but the rate of wear and the milage obtainable are a function of prevailing conditions and HABITS. The only penalty is viscous drag and at fractions so low as to be well worth the effort. Double the life, half the manufacturing carbon foot print. Greed is the only impediment.    The materials generated by SwRI are the RESULT not an estimation or a hypothesis.    Don't delude yourself sir, EV's have as many pitfalls as ICE's. He uses a Valvoline quick change shop for his oil service.   First they tell him that isn't the oil the OEM recommends. He told them he didn't care what the OEM thought.
