Led's For My 3rd Brake Light

Recommended Posts

I bought 2 white (9 led) bulbs with a 921 base, and 2 more in red to put in the third brake light of my '96 Sierra. I knew that if they didn't work flip them, and they should work, well I tried them the first time and blew a fuse, so I flipped them and changes the fuse, and it blew again, so I'm a bit lost. What would be causing this?

Here's a link to the specific bulb:

measure 1 1/8 long by 1/2 inch maximum diameter (194/168 type)

However, the 194's I ordered for the liscence plate lights work fine

Now I'm heading out to do the dash, so hopefully that goes smoother

I believe you need to wire in a LED resistor to limit the current to the new LED light you are installing(that would be why the fuses blew).........I think they're usually pretty cheap online, and easy to hook up. That said, I have not done this so i may be incorrect.

Ok well, thanks to thunderstruck over on another forum, I'll post the info here, so others with a similar problem may be helped too

I noticed that they led's have contact points on both sides on the right and left side of the connector, and the regular bulbs only have one connector on the left on one side, and one connector on the right on the other side.

That's why, I ran into this same problem with my third brake light.

Your truck has same side contacts while your 4-wheeler has opposed side contacts, that's why they work fine in your ATV but make a short circuit in your truck. You need to trim off the wire that doesn't match your original bulb."
