99 4.8 Silverado Plugs And Wires

I'd go ahead and stick with the AC/Delco plugs, as for wires, there are a few opinions on that but I've always gone with AC/Delco with those as well. Time to get everything changed out? 30 Min to 1 hour. Depending on how drunk you are. Don't forget to change the air filter.

AcDelco all the way. Can't go wrong with those. Very easy to swap, but there's always 1 plug that gives you a problem

Be sure to save and re-use the heat shields that are on the rubber boots near the plug. Buy a universal joint to stick on the plug socket to get that rearmost passenger side plug out. Before you put the new plug wires on put some dielectric grease on the new boots (where they meet the plug) so you'll be able to get them off next time.

That last plug is easy. Use a 3/8 socket. Just use a short extension. Put the socket on the plug, then put the extension in the socket, then put the ratchet on the extension. Works for me and I'm a crotchy old geezer.

If you can change your oil, you can change plugs. These are great cause you can't eff up the wire routing, lol.

what exactly hold the heat shields in place, the plug wires??

Just dont overtighten the plugs...you do not want to strip the threads in the head....that costs some big money. Just snug them up with the wrench and give them 1/16th of a turn past hand tight. Or you can use a torque wrench to be absolutely sure...I done know the torque though...I've always done it by feel.

As for wires and plugs.

I have MSD wires....mainly because they have a lifetime warranty and they cost me 5 bucks more than stock replacements, w/o the warranty.

I have NGK TR-55 Platinum plugs...they are NGK's factory replacements.

Again...like was said a few times, Cant go wrong with AC Delco.

do the pug wires just pull off the coils?also where to i look find the part# on the coil??i was told i would need this because there are 2 different sets of wires??

The heat shield is slipped over the end of the wire.

When you see it, you'll understand. It's the opposite of complicated. :dunno:

My wires seem to be seized to the plugs. Can I pull the heat shield out of the way to get a better grip on the wire boot?
