6 Disc Slave Loads But Won't Play Cds

I have an 05 Tahoe with Nav and just added a 6 disc slave. I went to a small dealership near me and the tech didn't really know what he was doing with the tech-2 and did a few things then told me It was impossible to reprogram for both a nav and 6 disc on my model then proceeded to charge me and send me on my way. On the way home the CDX actually started to show up on the nav screen, but when I put a cd in and try to play it, it just sits at 0:00 and does nothing. Is this going to be a programming problem that's an easy fix, or is the cd changer bad? If it's the former then I have been in contact with another service department that is actually confident in their abilities and would reprogram it for me, but the service manager I talked to said it sounds like a bad cd changer. Is there a way to diagnose this problem to find out which it is? Any help is much appreciated.
