Our '05 AWD Equinox has a vibration you can feel in the steering wheel starting around 60mph but gets noticeably worse when you hit 65mph and continue to 70mph.

A year ago or more I changed front brakes and rotors, also one tire had a slow leak so when I had it off I found a nail or something in it and I plugged it. It seems like ever since then it had this vibration, I didnt notice it before, I thought maybe my heavy duty off road tire plug had messed up the balance or something so I kept driving it like that. At times the vibration wouldnt be as bad and rotating tires didnt have much effect on it.

A month or so ago I purchased 4 new tires and I was hoping this would eliminate the vibration but now it is WORSE!!! It seems like it got better the older the tires got. The shop didnt say they had any trouble balancing the new tires and the wheel weights are minimal so I'm leaning against a bent wheel.

Is there any way those brake rotors could cause this or do I have a suspension problem?

Any Suggestions???

THANKS!

How much do you trust the site that mounted your tires?

I have had and know a number of people that were "supposed" to have their tire/wheels balanced and either the tech doing it didn't know what he was doing or they just skipped it.

I hope this isn't the case, but an out of balance tire/wheel combo would be the cheapest easiest fix. That's where I would start.

They are pretty trustworthy, and the fact that it was vibrating before and rotating doesnt make any difference makes me think its something else? I'm considering doing the brakes again, just never heard of a rotor causing this problem?

Check your tie rod ends. If they are worn or loose you'll get a shimmy at certain speeds.

Some things can't be fixed.

My 2008 GMC Sierra has been in shop 4 times for vibrations similar to yours. Replaced driveshaft. Replaced two tires. Balanced tires multiple times. Did an alignment (I had to pay for this one). And it still vibrates. Last time I left it for 3 days. No fix.
