Snow Plowing

What do you guys think about people using half ton trucks to plow snow. I know companies like Weston make quality plows specifically for half ton trucks, but I still think its crazy. Plowing is hard on a truck no matter what but I would think it would beat the s#*% out of a half ton. Just wondering your thoughts

depends on what you are plowing and the driver, some people know how to drive without beating on the truck. I would not put a plow on my truck, but I have no use for one.

There is a plowing section, your probably going to get this topic moved to that section.

I had several 1/2 ton GMs and used them for plowing till I

went to the 2500s.

A couple mfrs. must not have a issue with 1/2 tons used for plowing

because the offer a snow plow prep pkg. think ford and GM (on certain

models).

Now plow mfrs have guidelines on to which plow they sell can be mounted

on certain model/size pickups and most dealers won't install certain

plows on those trucks either. Liability concerns IMO !

I have seen some big 9 ft. v-plows mounted on a 1/2 ton and the nose

of the truck is about dragging on the ground ! Not to mention they

aren't even running any ballast either !

I guess if its your truck and your doing a self install its all on your own

as far as breakage or liability!

A 9 ft V-Plow would severly damage a 1/2 ton truck and would do so fairly quick and fast. The only possible way to have a plow of that size on a 1/2 ton would to have that 1/2 ton heavily modded up front. I've seen my buddies 8ft v plow drop his 06 F250 in the front, to the point where when he drove the truck with the plow up, it would practically scrap on the pavement all the time. I cannot see any plow dealer that also installs plows, putting a plow of that size on any 1/2 ton truck. If the truck could even transport a plow that size without scrapping the pavement "which it cannot", the 1/2 tons do not have tranny coolers, HD suspension, ect. The truck will live a very short life span.
