Z71 V. 4x4

i got in to an argument at work about it so can someone show me the difference between the two

Oh gosh...We've had this discussion on here before,Its easier if I ask you this....what year are you guys talking about? Different years and models had different content in the Z71 package (As well as some "required" options)

And what in particular are you "arguing" about?

If you're talking about newer GM vehicles a "4X4" is 4 wheel drive and a "Z-71" may or may not be a 4 wheel drive.

I have a Z71 other than different shocks, skid plates, and of course the sticker it is the same as any other Chevy 4x4. I suppose an argument could be made that the sticker makes it better. lol.

I've had both trucks... It all depends on what the truck was built with, but generally the GMT-800 trucks had 4 wheel drive, bilsteine shocks, more skid plates, and a locker..

 

my 4x4 had an open diff, some skid plates, and no name looking shocks..

Wrong answer, they had Tenneco Shocks (Red). The GMT400 had Bilsteins

I've had both trucks... It all depends on what the truck was built with, but generally the GMT-800 trucks had 4 wheel drive, bilsteine shocks, more skid plates, and a locker..

 

my 4x4 had an open diff, some skid plates, and no name looking shocks..

 

I will let MS3DALE take care of this, but in the meantime, they stopped putting Bilstein shocks on in 1998. The 99s had Tenneco shocks, red ones. G80 was not an option. Sometimes Z71 required an off road package that required the G80. High capicaty air cleaner and special bump stops were part of the package. off road tires were required at extra cost. of course the decals and skid plate, and 4X4 till the GMT900 came out.

they also had two Z71 sticker set up's for the gmt-800,,,, is it just random or do they represent diffirent packages??

So they're now selling 2WD's with the Z71 package?

 

Edit: It would make sense because I've got a friend who bought a new 4WD with the Z85 package. IIRC, the Z85 package is for a better ride, right? That would make sense because the Z71 gives the option for the more off-road oriented owner and the Z85 gives the better ride quality, but can still do off-road.

I believe that started in 05 with the Canyon and Colorado and carried over to the GMT 900s
