hockeypro1411 Posted January 10, 2010 Posted January 10, 2010 The other day I got out of my truck like normal, not really paying attention, and decided to shovel my driveway. When I got back in the truck to move it, I realized that the blower was still on even with the key out of the ignition. I stated the truck and played with the fan speeds, and no matter what setting it was on, the blower was on the highest speed. I didn't have time to get it to my buddy's house to use the heated garage, so I just pulled the fuse under the hood and left it. Now when the 40a fuse it pulled from under the hood, the blower is fully functional except on setting 5. Using what limited HVAC knowledge I have, it would make sense to me that setting 0-4 would run through some kind of resistor, and setting 5 would just run through a relay. My thought is that the relay is malfunctioning, hense the blower not working on setting 5. Does this sound about right?
Vortec-Z71 Posted January 10, 2010 Posted January 10, 2010 This is what I have found: http://getsatisfaction.com/gm/topics/why_w...work_on_speed_5
hockeypro1411 Posted January 10, 2010 Author Posted January 10, 2010 The problem in that article is how mine is now. 1-4 work, but 5 doesn't because I have the fuse under the hood pulled. If I don't pull the fuse, the blower stays on 5 no matter where the dial is, and no matter if the key is in or not. This leads me to believe that the relay is stuck open and the only way to turn it off is by pulling the fuse and cutting power to it.

I took mine to a dealer today because mine will not work on 5 and my speedo also stopped working so I figured I'd get that fixed also. This is the forth time I have had to fix the blower. The dealer has in the past given outstanding service, today I was told (in a nut shell) to pound sand and take it to another dealer .^@^@*#*&^#$@^%% and &@^!%*^!%*!!!! Lesson learned...do not take a vehicle for repair at a dealer scheduled to be closed. Well I took the truck to another dealer 10 miles away, I walked in and after taking a deep breath started to explain the situation to the service rep when he cut me off pointing "they are here for the same thing, how many miles?" 63k! "Pull it in, I'll scan it, order the parts and when they come in your covered no charge".
hockeypro1411 Posted February 3, 2010 Author Posted February 3, 2010 I got mine fixed up right last week. The relay inside the blower motor resistor blew. Until it gets fixed, you can pull the 40a or 60a (I forgot what it's rated for) under the hood and she should work like normal on speeds 1-4. I got by for a while doing that.
