Hi everyone,

Alan here, a new member from Tullahoma, Tennessee. I have a 2001 GMC Sierra 2500HD 4x4.

I found this forum through a Google search for a solution to a new problem that reared its VERY cold and ugly head in tonight's 20 degree cold. The heater quit working while my wife and I were 80 miles from home. It worked three hours earlier, but when we came outside to drive home, no heat. The fan works and the air can be directed but it's as cold as my ex-wife's heart. Coolant temp is normal.

Welcome aboard, it does sound like a plugged up heater core. You can try to disconnect the coolant lines and flush it with a garden hose. Then change out your antifreeze. I had a '96 Impala that was bad about that. Good luck.

It's a New Year's Heater Miracle! This morning the heater is working. The valve seems to have reset itself by the truck being turned off and back on. Wish I'd tried that last night! Last night I didn't hear that middle-of-the-dashboard sound of an operating valve. This morning I heard it when I started the engine.
