New 09 Sierra 4 Wd..problems And Disappointment

Just wondered if any new 2009 owners were having issues with their trucks like I am.

This is my 4th Sierra since 2005. All have been great, esp my 2007 that was special ordered with a 6.0 motor.

First off, my company buys a new truck every year for the business, or I would have kept my 07.

Anyways- so far with 4500 miles, my 09 has warped front and rear rotors/drums, a faint ticking sound at idle (from the underneath near engine compartment), and a snapping, popping plastic sound when turning the steering wheel.

I'm not OVERLY concerned about the ticking noise at idle, because I believe my 07 did it...and the sound goes away as soon as the motor revs above idle. I think it may be the cat conv. making noise. The convertors are placed differently I think than the ones on the 2WD models, and I believe they are sitting at a position where the sound easily "echos" out from underneath the truck. Could be some sort of emissions valve or something, too.

The steering issue and the brakes are what really pis**s me off though.

Supposedly, the dealer has said there are TSB's on both problems, but they want me to leave the truck for 3 days. Ummm..no..don't think so. Yet, they won't give me a copy of the TSB's so I can see exactly what I'm dealing with.

Any suggestions or input is appreciated.

Sorry to hear about the trouble Danny. I can't see why they would need the truck for 3 days unless they're really backed up with service work. My 09' 6.0L does tick a little too at idle but like you mentioned this is quite common and nothing to worry about. So far my brakes are holding up alright at 4000 miles and I do not have the steering pop noise. Try another dealer perhaps and you might get some better service.

maybe the steering pop and warped rotors are related?

I am thinking my 07 6.0 motor ticked too. Now, this isn't the lifter type ticking I have been reading about..its more of a faint noise, sort of like a small exhaust leak. Its more pronounced when going up to a drive thru window. I also started thinking that I really didn't notice the ticking till I had my oil changed. Is it possible that Jiffy Lube put a wrong filter, or wrong oil in my truck?

Found out today there is a TSB out on the steering wheel noise.
