Just wondering what area of CO you are in.  I go to Denver every year for the big stock show (nine years now) and have taken short trips up to the mountains for skiing.  Been to Winter Park, Breckenridge, Copper Mountain, and Keystone.  Are you in that area or are you more southerly?

So when does this stock show normally take place?  I'm also curious what route you take from your house to Denver.

8 out of the 9 years I've taken the Amtrak train out there that goes through IA and NE.  Pretty nice trip if you are a guy like me that is amazed by huge spaces of nothing.  One year dad and I flew out, which was pretty nice.  Hopefully we'll find some cheap plane tickets this year.

Since you found part of your answer, here's the rest.  I'm in Lake City (barely a dot on the map), south of Gunnison.  The four closest ski resorts to me are, Crested Butte-home of the X Games, Wolf Creek Pass-most snow in CO every year, Monarch-great snow when others are so so, and Telluride-nuff said.

Of the 4 you've visited, I've only been to Copper Mtn.  My wife is the big skier.  My knee is moody, so I ride snowmobiles all winter.  Sounds like a great train ride, I've never taken a trip on a train.  Should add that to my list of 20 things to do.......
