2007 Exhaust

I have a new body style 2007 silverado Z71 ext cab 5.3L. Exhaust is my next mod but I would like to get your opinions if possible. I dont have the money to throw at a corsa, borla, or magnaflow but have looked into Gibson (like the dual sport), I can get the gm performance single exhaust from someone on here for $250 in great condition, or there is always the local trusted muffler shop that will throw flowmater super 40 on it with mandrel bent tubing. Just wanted your feedback. Thanks!

I went with a Flowmaster 70 series big block muffler and custom bent tails tucked behind the rear bumper. It sounds great, doesn't drone, and is out of sight!

Any noticible gains in hp, torque? That 70 series is pretty loud too, correct? Crackle much, throaty sounding?

Honestly... I've never seen any really noticeable gains from an exhaust. It sounds great. Deep and sort of Factory Vette like sound (not loud cowboy style sound).

The new Gibson systems are really good with dealing with the AFM/DOD drone found in the 5.3, and their Supertruck system is what I used on mine, replacing those "step-side"tips with some 3 1/2" Flowmasters. If I had it to do over, I might consider a custom-made system, and it probably would come out cheaper. It's all about the "sound" anyway.

Honestly... I've never seen any really noticeable gains from an exhaust. It sounds great. Deep and sort of Factory Vette like sound (not loud cowboy style sound).

I havent either. Just wondered with the new motors how they reacted to breathing a lil better. The cowboy sound is exactly what I want to say away from. Truthfully I want to keep the stock look with a finished tip maybe. Just want some sound out of it. Kinda wanted to keep the truck stealth and do CAI, tune, ect. Always loved pullin up to someone who thinks you are stock and rip em a new one. Thanks for the help.

Thanks for the help! I'm not the biggest fan of square tips and the before tire exit but it looks great on your truck. I'll look into it. Probably gonna head with a custom system with flowmaster. Just got off the phone with my local shop.

I run MBRP stainless exhaust and I love it. Sounds amazing. Do a search and you will find videos of the exhaust on here. MBRP and Gibson are about half the price of corsa. Justin and Jenna at Blackbear don't recomend flowmaster at all due the the chamber design losing power.

If you want a shop to do it, I would buy a corsa muffler and take it to them. The corsa mufflers sound amazing, but I couldn't find anyone to do mandrel bent pipes, so I got the stainless MBRP for 430 shipped.

What's the intake-exit on these? If you dont know off the top of your head I'll research it. For now I was just thinking about putting a muffler in the stock type setup. Possible? Dumb? Later I would like to do headers, high flow cats, and performance exhaust but until I save that all up I want some sound.

I would get the gmpp single exhaust. I have it and it is great. It is made by borla with the gm name on it. It sounds good, No drone, and queit when cruising.

That Flowmaster myth has been going around for years. I run one and lost neither. MPG hasn't changed and the only "performance" difference is better sound. Mine is nice and quiet on the highway but sounds really good.

Man there's no myth there. It was apples and oranges on my 2003 LS 5.3 extended cab. I ran the Flowaster complete catback with 40-series muffler with dual 2.5" exit. I lost miles per gallon and a what felt like a ton of low end torque. The dang thing rusted out in under 2-1/2 years here in Pennsylvania where they use salt and magnesium on the roads during winter. It sounded awesome, but performance wise, that particular setup sucked on my truck.

I swapped it for a Magnaflow Dual cat back exhaust with 2.5" exits and it was night and day. Right out of the driveway I Gained back the low end torque and could feel it instantly since I lived on a hill. Also gained about 1mpg better intown. Towing my 6000 lb camping trailer, I could feel it too. It was a very noticeable difference.

No myth. It was the truth on my 2003 5.3 extended cab 4x4.

Well. Different configurations might react differently I suppose. It certainly is not an across the board result. I've had several trucks with various FLowmasters on them but never with those results. The only one I ever had that I did any extensive fuel economy monitoring on is my current GMC. Mileage hasn't changed much either direction since it was new (15,000 miles in 2.5 years).

I hear ya on the rust though. Luckily I Live in an area where nothing ever rusts. I'm sure my take would be different on that subject if I Lived up North.
