A scraped lower control arm, alignment is off, vibration at speeds above 20 mph, ok. Now is it harsh engagement shiftiing in to four wheel drive or banging while driving in four wheel drive?

I could see maybe a 1,000$ if the lower control arm must be replaced, the sway bar replaced, maybe a bent wheel, broken half shaft or front diff or hub allowing the halshaft to come loose at one end and bang against everything. Given all that with a blue book value that might not be much higher than the damage cost, it could be totalled.

In any case get some blue book and nada values of the truck yourself, to either negotiate a higher totalled value (the check they give you when they tow your truck away), or if that amount is high enough they may decide to fix it instead meaning you would be driving a compromised vehicle. In my opinion in hard enough hits, they never go back quite right.

That sucks man; hopefully they either make it right or give you a decent price on your truck. Start off by trying to find the value of your blazer and seeing if there is anything local that you could replace it with for that price. If they repair it make sure you get some form of a warranty on the repairs and take it to an independent shop that you trust to verify the repairs. There is some formula that insurance companies use to determine how much they will pay for repairs before they total the vehicle, so depending on where that bill comes in they may total it. Figure out what your blazer is worth (before the damage) and see if you can find something to replace it with. Unfortunately I doubt you will get a better truck out of it, but if you get a feel for what you can get for the same price it can help while dealing with the insurance company.

Man that really stinks, I think I hit a crater the other day on a pa road. But you already know about that.

I believe Pa law says that 3 repair quotes from body shops is all you need. If you have any concerns you could call the Pa Dept of Insurance. The advice they give you is free. I used them once. Very helpfull. I think the number is 1-877-881-6388. Hope it works out for you.........
