Cheap Diy Mods? What Can Be Done On A Budget?

Recommended Posts

In the grand prix world, we have lots of cheap Do It Yourself modifications that can be done to make some decent improvement in our cars. the good ole 3.8 SC is pretty easy to make happy time, lol.

So, is there anything you guys have come up with through the years? home depot intakes, tweaks, cheap bolt ons, etc?

Id like to in time do a full exhaust, headers and all (something quiet, im not trying to be another GM truck running flowmasters), rockers, intake, etc. simple stuff to get a bit more "shit and get" out of the yukon.

any thoughts or ideas, things i cvan mess with? point me in the right direction guys.

and no TB spacers, lol, worthless mod. :tumbleweed:

throttle body coolant bypass mod?

sounds like what we do on the 3.8's. we block off the coolant passage to the TB, so the TB is no longer warmed by the coolant.

im off to search for info, do you have any more details?

- Throttle body coolant bypass mod

- 180º thermostat from Lingenfelter for <$20

- Polished and ported throttle body from Lingenfelter for <$100

- Servo(s) - Vette 2nd at a minimum for ~$20; Sonnax 2nd and 4th for an upgrade, albeit a pricier one

- Not "cheap," but a tune from Wheatley or Black Bear

yup...cheapest mod in the world is a tuned computer...It actually pays you after about a year or 2...in fuel savings.
