Large Diameter Exhaust Pipe 6.0

When did Chevy change to a large diameter exhaust pipe not just from mufler, but even back to cats? Its similar diameter to a diesel. Also pretty loud when accelerating and warming up.

I don't know If I understood your question but my '08 6.0L has dual from the engine to the cats and into a single muffler then dual out and into one huge pipe after the muffler the pipe on the end looks like the same pipe they used on the GMT800 diesels. To be honest everyone things I have a flowmaster or Magnaflow but it's bone stock from the factory. Honestly my stock 6.0L is the meanest sounding stock V8 I've heard in a long time.

Exactly, I like it. I'm wondering if they did this intentionally for better flow and this is where the additional power is comming from on the 6.0.

Yea these 6.0 HDs do sound damn good for a stock exhaust. And it probably has everything to do with getting every ounce of power out of the 6.0. Mine truck is the same way as the OP, the muffler is single in/out with duals running past the cats into a into single HUGE y pipe.

My 99 6.0 has dual exhaust all the way back. Then a 2 in 2 out muffler. The whole thing is 3"

This is the way i got it but it looks factory...

This is exactly how my '08 2500HD W/ 6.0L is, but mine is a cab & chassis and the dual in & out muffler is very flat and small, my guess is so that it doesn't screw with up-fitting companies that put service boxes on the frame rails. I looked under an '09 with a regular pickup box and the muffler was a single in single out, looked like almost 4" piping in and out?? but the same tail pipe as my truck.

On the GMT-800 2500HD trucks the 6.0 gasser have dual 3 inch pipe from the engine to the muffler then out of the muffler it is a single 3.5inch out.

Yes, I am pretty sure they are, since the flowmaster muffler that I put on my truck is also the labeled as the big block muffler for our trucks.

Yep, thats how mine was too. I put dual Super 44 mufflers on mine to let it roar. Sounded mean outside but it made me wanna shoot myself from drone.

They used that 3" duals system on everything, they only changed the mufflers for each engine, 6.0L, 8.1, and 6.6 Dmax. 6.0L with alot of choke backs in velocity, the 8.1 with minor choking back, and the duramax more open to flow with the exhaust pipes. Thats how they still performs well.

I though for the GMT 900 trucks they discontinued the dual pipe system in the gas trucks and ran single 3.5" pipe and had a resonator in the tailpipe.
