2008 Black Yukon Denali Paint Healing

The client is a mod on Autopia. He is from the Big Easy and wanted this black beast looking right when they flew in to pick it up.

The client made arrangments for me to detail it at the dealership where he purchased it from. I arrived at 7:30a, gauged the paint and let the client know that there was no sign of any repainted panels.

After a QEW wash and 3x straight IPA wipedowns:

After:

M105/surbuf/G110v2 speed 5

M205/black classic LC flat/G110v2 speed 5

I was not 100% happy with the finish that just a 2 step polish was leaving on this PITA GM black paint. So my actual process on all the painted areas was the following:

M105/surbuf/G110v2 speed 5

M205/orange classic LC flat/G110v2 speed 5

M205/black classic LC flat/G110v2 speed 5

I did a wipedown with M34 to remove some dust and applied a coat of Blackfire wetdiamond.

Prior to leaving the dealership at midnight.

There where a few things that I did not have to finish. The client would bring the Denali down to my place after they flew in and picked it up. Got them setup with a place to eat and see a movie close by. They decided to stay in the area and start out the next day early.

While I double checked everything and finished up on the exterior. My wife was kind enough to vacuum the interior. The carpet or mats did not appear to be that dirty. I brushed the mats and blew then with compressed air. Went over them with the shop vac. They did not pass my wife's test:

So it was time to break out the heavy hitter. Our new Dyson DC28. Amy went over the mats many times. There was still some sand coming out of the mats. Shook them out and beat them till they cried. Went over them again with the Dyson.

This is how much sand the dyson pulled out of the mats. Plus what was shook out into the basket could of filled a sand box.

The dash and most of the hard plastics had a nice coat of 20w-50 that the auction detailers apply to every car that the dealership buys. I cleaned that off with IZ Plastik-Reiniger and followed with 1Z Tiefenpfleger.

Leather got Zaino Z9/10.

Sorry no finished pics of the interior.

I did a 2BM wash, cleaned the tires with ARO 1:1, wheels cleaned with MWB. Tires got Zaino Z-16. Windshield got Aquapel.

Seriously dude? You think you can get the same results with a couple coats of zaino? I've used zaino and it's nice but wont fix the paint like this.

Nice work man!

I really enjoyed your write up and am just getting into the more professional side of auto detailing. I am going to try some of the products you used but could you go into a little more detail about what the surbuf, orange flat, etc part of your description is. I think you maybe mean the type of applicator you used but I'm not sure.

This is all good info though for someone just getting into detailing supplies that aren't on the shelf in Autozone. Do you have a good web site to buy this kind of stuff?

Andy, as someone who has been using zaino for the last 8 years, I can for sure tell you that no product alone will get these results without proper prep which includes many house of machine polishing.

No, I would never use motor oil on anywhere for detailing. I was being sarcastic about what the hacks at the auction used on the interior. I had to remove this oil like substance.

surbuf pads are what I used to compound the paint. Orange flat classic lake country pads for polishing both via machine

Great Wright up!!!!

You did an awsome job on that Denali

:shakehead:

thank you!

well DUH, kids... that paint was fu**ed up...

I didnt mean to insinuate that zaino alone did that, Z2 and Z5 barely hide the lightest swirl marks... I was talking about the finished gloss... nothing looks as good as that stuff when you've built it up with a few coats...
