Amount Of Oil During Change

I did an oil change on my new truck last weekend after only 1200 miles on odo. I did this mainly because the truck was built July 09, so its been sitting a while at dealer till I bought earlier this month. Anyway, driving up on ramp, and emptying oil & filter, I put back 5.5 quarts of oil and its 1/2 full on dipstick in safe area after letting truck sit 15 minutes after driving. Should this be all the way to top of safe area, or is 1/2 way ok?

I usually go just a fuzz over the half way mark

Put the other half qt in. That should bring it up to the full line.
