Help With Leveling Kit Install

Recommended Posts

Posted

Just ordered my RC 2 in leveling kit. Looks like the metal type one, off e bay, offered $55 and got it.

I ve read all the install posts and hope I will be able to complete it. Also hope I can leave the balljoints connected cause I ve never seperated them before and dont want to mess up.

Will the dealer give me a problem or flagged the truck as modified if I go to them for the alignment. I don t trust or know any other shops in my area?

Will it matter (for the alignment) if I put my stock 17 s or stock 20 s? Thanks guys!

The kit is simple. Just a spacer under the strut on the lower control arm. You may not need to disconnect the upper ball joint but it will be much easier. Much Much easier. Its simple. One nut remove, Take a splitter bar(looks like a tuning fork from music class) insert between the Knuckle top and ball joint and smack a couple times with a hammer should pop right off. Take and move knickle outta the way. Take two bolts out of the bottome of the strut. Compress shock, Insert spacer let shouck down and rebolt to lower control arm. Insert ball joint back to knuckle and put nut on. Use an impact gun to tighten nut and it will pull the ball joint in. Careful not to over tighten. Need to be snug but i forget the torque spec.

As for the dealer its dealer dependent. They might not say anything if they do not notice. The other thing is for it to void warrenty they have to prove that it was the cause of problem. Though if you can you can pull the spacer and put back to stock.

Alignment is worth paying to have done. It will most likely need it.

Wheel size wont make a difference for alignment but will for your wallet on tires. It all up to you on what look you want or like.

If you get it and its composite, do not worry its just as good. Better in my opinion. Wont rust.

Take your time and you should be fine doing it. Nothing you can really mess up. Watch threads and bolt heads.

Good luck and post pics when its done.

Should look nice.....
