Hid Hum?

just a quick question. just bougth an HID kit. plugs in nice and everything. fired it up and HHHHUUUMMM. the noise was a lot louder on warm up and a steady hum when all warmed up. here's a vid. let me know if i should take them back.

I had a hum for the first 2 seconds of the life of my kit and it never returned...I think yours might need to be returned.

I had HID in my old truck for 1.5 years and the ballasts on the lows and fogs made a "hum" or real high pitched whistle kinda sound. I also had HID on my atv with different bulbs & ballasts and they made the same noise. I don't think there is anything wrong with your kit and wouldn't worry about it unless your bulbs are flickering or something like that.

Mine sound very similar. Sounds like the other HID kits I've heard, my buddies sounds the same too. Kinda like when you can hear the ballast on a fluorescent light. I think if you throw done big money on a higher end kit, then maybe you can get rid of it? Never listened for it on my wifes TL which has the factory HID. I can only hear it when the engine is shut off and walk to the front of the truck. Don't let it bug you and after you take your first drive with them at night, you won't go back to halogen.

yea thanks i turned them on and let them warm for abour 2 min, them hum fell to a faint noise and when i grabbed the ballast with my hand the sound discipated. same thing if you place your hand on a ballast for a flourescent bulb the sound almost goes away. i'm not worried about it anymore lol. i will never here it on the road, and they have warranty anyway

Mine might be just a tad quieter,but not by much,I mainly only hear some humming when the engines not running.....'cause when its running I mainly hear my CORSA

That noise could also mean the ballasts aren't being fed with full voltage. Are these wired to the factory harness, or a relay harness?

factory harness, have no idea how to wire up a relay harness if it would help.

was this shot day or night?

if during day, were the lights fully on, or just power from the DRLs (since you dont have a harness hooked up supplying full 12v all the time)...

night, i think a little hum is normal now from talking to other ppl. thay have a year warranty on them anyway so, thanks again to all who contributed

mine make a slight sound at night on my sierra. ive got the same kit on my altima and it makes no sound at all. got mine off ebay from VME fyi...
