See if the exhaust has a small round hole in that spot.  A couple of the GM cars my parents have had, had a small hole in the back, bottom part of the muffler for water (condensation) to drain out of.

The rubbing, I wouldn't sweat it too much unless it's wearing through the cover for the park brake cable.  You could possible rig up something to keep it pulled away from the shock.

I'd have the dealer check the possible craked weld.

Zane, start up the engine and let it run. Then, block the exhaust pipe somehow (most common way is to  shove a wrag into the pipe but make sure you can yank it back out. Oh, and BTW, be careful, it's HOT! ;)ALSO, don't leave it in there for a long time, the process should take 30 seconds or less) If the engine starts upping it's RPMs on it's own. Then the exhaust has no leaks. If it stays at the same RPMs, there's a leak.

Whether or not you want to do that is up to you, just a suggestion. :)

When does your state inspection expire? They're SUPPOSED to check that kinda stuff. They do that Exhaust trick I just told you about (atleast they're supposed to). I'd suggest pointing that stuff out to the inspector. BUT, be careful. They might fail your truck unless you get the crap fixed by them (depending on where you take it too).

General, not all states require inspection, only a select few.  Here in IL you only have to have your rig inspected if you use it for hire.  I guess technically we are supposed to have our truck and trailer inspected, but we never have.

Those are all normal.  Anytime you get mileage you'll have appearances like that.  My father's 01 Silverado already has water at the bottom of the muffler.  And it has almost 20k.  I wouldn't worry about the exhuast.  Since most of it's all stainless steel, I would wait until you actually hear the muffler going out.  And you'll know when it does.

The hose on the shock--I wouldn't let it worry you.  All of our vehicles have that too.  I used electrical tape and wraped that spot several times around the hose.  It holds well.

The weld.  I wouldn't worry unless it get's worse.

Thank you for the replies.

There is no drain hole on the muffler, so i think its a leak(from the outside it whistles slightly).

The shock, should be ok, but i still am going to have the dealer look at it.

Frame.... all i can say is i'm dissapointed.

For 26k i would have hoped this truck would have worn better. Cracking frames, and rotting muffles are not somthing that impress me.

Mervz, I thought most factory exhausts have a "weep" hole in the rear of the muffler.  I wouldn't worry about the E-brake cable.  And where is the frame section at??? It's hard to tell by the picture....

I'm going to agree with Pastmaster on this one.  Your truck is getting some miles on it, and this kind of stuff is to be expected.

Especially the exhaust.  I mean, look at where you live Zane, there is salt on the road for what 6 months of the year?  That stuff will kill any exposed metal.  As for the shock, no big deal.  Like was mentioned I'd be more worried about the parking brake cable itself.  If it really worried me I'd rig up something myself to take care of it.  Probably about time for new shocks anyways....

Now onto the frame.  Are you sure this wasn't there before, and you just now noticed it?  I can't see the picture very well, but it don't look like much to worry about.  Just make sure it don't get worse.

btw, what would you do if you owned an older pickup like some of us here?  We put up with stuff alot worse then this.  LOL

Then i would expecti it. I just think that they could, and can build vehicles that last longer than this......

Not that i don't love my truck, i really do, i just hate its problems. If these were the only things wrong, i would be a happy man.
