Nice Rear, Or Not?

I was looking at a used '06 Duramax diesel, fully loaded, and noticed this 14 bolt rear under it. My question is, has anyone ever seen this model rear end under a Dmax before?

If it was an '06, the stock rear was a 14 bolt-10.5" ring gear full-floater. Who knows what could have been swapped in there.

I'm thinking the truck was about to be re-possesed, and the owner (at the time) swapped out rears before the repo guys came & got it? Other than that, I can't think of any other reason that rear is under a Dmax. I don't know if that rear will hold up to the HP/torque a Dmax puts out, but I wasn't gonna find out!

mine has a 11,5" swap with 4.10 gearing

 

OEM had a G80 blow up and the dealer had a 11,5" from a crashed truck and it was cheaper to do the ratios than order a new G80....

 

never had any trouble with it, don't know if the G80 on the 11,5" is stronger but i've done crazy stuff with it

It wouldn't put up with it. Maybe for a while, but not long. Especially a tuned DMax. I'd like to see the damage it would do.
