Love it man. I need to get me a spare set and ship them to you to do.

Looks great, did you remove the back of the upper reflector? Only thing that looks a little off is the black around the projector. Looking forward to the write up, maybe even what you would charge for a set. Either way, great job!

Reminds me of the old Terminator movie where Arnold is repairing his face and the eye ball is exposed.

yeah, i chose black to give the shroud some contrast, and to break up the chrome look a tad. with the reflector painted it helps a bit, it was just way to busy before. but thats my opinion.

I'm not quite sure I'm ready to get into this business, haha. Seriously though, its been a fun little project thus far. All i needed to do was open up the back of the reflector a bit to make room for the projector; the end of the morimoto projectors are threaded so its not too bad of a deal. almost a plug n play setup really. I think the toughest part was getting the b@lls to open up the headlights....but if you take your time even that wasnt terrible. I say that now...we'll see if they leak

here are the finished pics... I'm happy with the light output, much improved over stock. I need to do some adjustments to how level they are from left to right...but to do that I need to take the front end apart again... SO, I'm just going to live with it for now

Those look SICK! Almost wouldn't be able to tell they're not 100% stock.

Exactly which projector/shroud/etc. model did you purchase from that site? I might actually be inclined to do this to my Sierra as a further improvement over the HID conversion I already have in place....

Really really really like those man. They look like they came stock like that. Excellent work. Makes me wanna try this on my Sierra

thanks guys! They're the Morimoto Mini-Xenons available at theretrofitsource.com. You can use pretty much any shroud you want; i went with the "gatling" style. Regular H1 HID bulbs fit in the back, so if you have HID setup already you're one step closer!

TRS has some great customer service as well.

Nice work herkdriver, and thanks for posting info and pics. Why did you cut the back of the headlights open instead of heating the headlights up and removing the outter lense cover? Also how much room do you have behind the headlight now...the same as stock or did using the H1s use some of the space?

Thanks again!

Wow, looks great! That is an awesome job, certainly something GM should have done! For at least the LTZ or Denali models.

thanks AKBlue,

I had an extra broken headlight laying around, so I opened up the back to see exactly what i was working with, how things look inside, how much room i had in certain directions, etc.

With the GMT900 factory headlights, you really cant heat them up to get the lens off; however i have "heard" that the aftermarket suppliers of OEM headlights use a different caulk/sealant, and some of those can be heated to separate the lens from the housing. All I have are the OEM ones, so I cant verify. BUT I can tell you if you heat an OEM one too long, it WILL MELT even at a lower (250*) temp...

I used a Dremel with a cutoff wheel and a hot knife to remove the lens...overall if you take your time it will come out looking fine, and really you cant tell thats how I did it unless you really get in there and start to look around.

The base of the H1 bulb plus the small amount of wires take up most of that space; behind the reflector you have about 1.75" of room....the back of the new projector extends about .75" beyond the standard reflector and the bulb base/wiring just about takes up the rest.

However, if you really wanted to run some other true projector with a D2S bulb, you could completely remove the upper reflector and fab your own mounts to move the center over about an inch towards the center of the truck, this could work

Well today I had a rainy 5hr drive back from Dallas, and I'm happy to report everything works as advertised! No issues with the lenses or the lights due to the weather, and they really do brighten up the highway, also off the sides as well

I'm going to try and get the write up done this week for anyone attemping this retro...
