If this works like I think its going to...it shouldnt take more than a couple of hours to get it done, and done correctly. The HIDs are bright themselves...throw in the projector to focus the light... its nice looking so far!

 

I'm waiting on a few parts to come in, then I can start getting towards the finish line. I need another housing to test something on, then it should be ready for the final outcome.

 

Rest assured, once I'm done I'll have a complete write up for the DIYer.... If someone is willing to clear their lights then this is along the same lines...

I really would be interested to see how these projectors look inside a Sierra's housing. They really look nice in the Silverado lights! Very understated and look like they could be stock.

That guy has the perfect set up.... I would love to have a vacuum bench.......... All sorts of things can be molded with one.... In such a method as he uses on those head lamps.

Hey Herkdriver, any progress with the retrofit? I have been measuring and planning a HID retro in my 09 silverado for a while now. The new H1 projector has been shown to be a great little unit.

no updates as of yet; I purchased another housing to test an idea I have... and I finally received my lost parts. After just a bit of work with the Dremel, the projector fits really nice in the OEM housing.

 

I'm hoping in the next few weeks to have this all wrapped up!

Cool glad to hear its all working Herkdriver. I have wondered how I would fit the shroud in and around the OEM reflector. I have thought about taking the long portion of the reflector out and just use a shroud. Is this something that you are dealing with also?

when you say "long portion of the reflector," which part are you referring to? The front side which people see, or the rear where the plug is?

 

I think the depth is what is going to be the limiting factor. From what I measured, the TOTAL length is near 6.5" from the support bracket on the truck to the inside of the headlight lens...so in that distance you would have the projector lens, projector housing, and the bulb. A tight fit for sure. So if you were going to completely remove the top low beam reflector and create your own support for the new projector, you'd could move it more toward the centerline of the truck where there is more room behind the headlight assembly.

 

I decided to go with the Morimoto mini's for this reason...less fab work required. I wanted a solution which would provide the best overall value, and perform just as well.

 

I think if you were to go with the FX-R hybrid projector, you could probably make it work as well, since it is just bit shorter than the other housings available.

Yeah , the front side that can be seen. The reflector housing is long on our trucks. A shroud may be able to do in place of that beacuse its not needed with a projector anyway. Just a thought. One I get an extra set of lights to pull apart I will be able to access more acurately.
