Was there previously a pst excemption on privately bought vehicles and they are taking that off now?

Dan... I think the issue is that they will now be paying full PST AND GST even on private sales with the HST poilcy....

.. that is one of the reasons why our Saskatchewan government here at home refuses to go to HST ... they just removed PST on previously Sask registered vehicles... so it would contradict this to go to the HST policy

yeah we only have to pay GST on vehicles and new houses food etc...until July 1

I am originally from Newfoundland...we had HST there for years, and there is no HST on new houses...things that were previously GST or PST exempt for the most part are still exempt of that specific tax. The HST was brought out for that side of the country to save a few bucks...back whet they were two separate taxes, they would charge PST on your total, than charge GST on that...for NL it was 12% PST and 7% GST....added together it looked like 19%....but it turned out to be 19.75% after it was charged together. So when they made the HST it saves a lot of cars on large purchases...like say a car or truck.

I wish i was a paid like a MP. They have a COLA clause in there pay agreement. So if the cost of living goes up there wages do to. So they cant lose! They made a big deal of it when they froze it for a year. Funny that for a party is always saying how green they are, they will be taxing solar panels etc when the HST comes in.They even dropped the tax rebate on bio fuels.
