Got The Volant Working Good On The 09 Denali!

I did everything properly this time and either the battery disconnect, or using the Volant o-ring on the Mass Air Meter solved all the hesitation issues I was having from the first try with the intake. I'm so relieved as I thought I had a $349 doorstop of an intake system!

The Volant tech was the one that mentioned the battery disc and the o-ring. Wish they had put that in the directions! Now truck runs smooth and feels stronger.

Just thought I'd post the results in case someone else is having similar issues!

what was the problem before? hesitation? i installed the volant cold air on my 08 yukon and didnt disconnect the battery and i dont remember an o ring

I had the same issues on the '09 Silverado. I had a post on this a few months ago. I reinstalled the kit in January according to the new directions (dicsonnect battery and replace O-ring). All seemed fine until this past Sunday.

The Check Engine Light came on and my scanner read 3 codes for rich fuel mixture. I reset the codes and did not drive the truck again until yesterday. The light came on again with the same codes, so I looked at the intake (the only add-on I have) and saw that all hoses were tight. I then took off the cover and looked at the filter. To my surprise, it was no longer blue, it was white. It looks like all the oil was sucked out of it.

So I pulled out the MAF sensor and saw a white residue on it. I used MAF sensor cleaner to clean it and re-install. I also cleaned (though it was not dirty) and re-oiled the air filter. I have not driven it since, but I will keep my fingers crossed. I emailed Volant about the issue and the tech replied that sometimes after 2,000 miles, the filters need to be re-oiled. I still do not know if this caused the codes, but there is under 1,500 miles since the installation.

Anyone have similar experience with this or suggestions?

I'd really like to see what a Volant looks like installed. Liked the one I had in my old Tundra.

Joe C....there are a few threads showing a detailed install of the Volant using the search feature. It was helpful for me when I put mine on.

Harley--I'll keep an eye on the filter. Did you purchase the new Powercore filter? I believe it is a dry filter that does not require oiling?

No it is not the Powercore filter, it is the regular oiled cone-type. Danny, the tech at Volant, emailed me back and said the oil being sucked in probably caused the rich fuel mixture, but cleaning the MAF and re-oiling the filter should work.

I don't know, I never had this issue on the old truck with the K&N intake.......

Sorry to hijack the thread, but I re-installed the Volant CAI (again!!) and it started throwing the rich fuel mixture codes (again!!). Anyone have ideas or suggestions?

I am going to call Volant and ask for a refund and won't be purchasing anything from them again. I really think that with the design change of the '09 MAF sensor, they jumped the gun and pushed the product out before enough testing.

I am hoping one is available from GMPP sometime soon.

SLP is only a 20 minute ride from me so maybe I will check out their CAI. If not, I will just put in a K&N drop-in filter.
