Current Duramax Engine

I had an 06 with a duramax, before all the emission crap that went on it and that truck moved! Definately noticed a difference in power upon acceleration from a dead stop and also was quicker off the line vs my 6.0. So this past Sunday I was at a light and guy next to me had a brand new GM dually with duramax. I didn't think he wanted to play around, but as the light turned green and we both made a left turn onto the highway I heard him get on the gas and I decided to get on my gas as well. To my surprise, I was able to catch up instantly and pass him by 10 ft or so while accelerating. I had to get off highway to stop at a store, so we didn't get the opportunity to continue. So I guess that new emission crap really did effect the performance of the duramax. Cause the 06 that I had would have accelerated much faster then my 6.0 off the line and kept a lead on my 6.0 while accelerating.

Even though I have 4:10's on my 6.0, my 06 duramax had 3:73's.

IMO all the negative crap you hear about emissions is just negative hype. The LMM has more HP than the versions and other than a small mileage penalty when the system goes into regen you won't even know it is there. I couldn't be happier with my '08.

Right before the emissions came out on the duramax, the dealers were talking about them and how they are going to become more restrictive. The 06 I had with the duramax was sick! I did a burn out with it, and after spinning the tires for over 25ft, I had to let off the gas cause the truck just wanted to keep spinning those wheels. That was a powerful truck! Red neck corvette IMO. Had 350 hp and 560 tq.

Load 4000#s in both trucks and run them again, it will be reversed. My 08 dually won't spin the tires because of torque management.

My '07 LMM is my first diesel, so I really can't compare it any previous diesel. My previous vechicle was an '02 YukonXL with the 5.3l, tuned, air-raid intake, gibson exhaust.

However, it constantly surprises me how much torque this d-max thing has.

Went camping one fall weekend, and was sitting at a red light, waiting for it to turn green so I could take the very next street down to the express-way. A car pulls from out behind and moves up beside me. I think to myself.....when that lights turns green, they're going to cut me off and turn right (it's a popular route). Only having the truck a few months I decided to find out how it launches. Well, to say I was surprised is an under-statement. The back tires broke free and I went across the intersection with the rear tires screaming. The car didn't catch up.

Oh...did I mention that I was towing a 27' travel trailer (loaded) with a face-cord of firewood, bikes, camping equipment etc in the pan of the truck?

ps. I don't recommend this as a practise....things were slightly moved around in the trailer afterwards. ;)

I think the 08-09 trucks are better than 07s. A lot of ppl had trouble with 07 trucks, although much more common on Ford and Dodge. However, I think the people people who have to spend $1200 on a dpf at 125000 miles won't be amused.

At my former employer we had a 2011 Duramax mule that was very fast. It wasn't production as it was a mule and had an engine that supposedly had the power of a production 2011 but without SCR. At any rate it was a fun to drive. Just remember that diesel dual wheel truck is probably a ton heavier than your truck.
