Brake And Abs Lights Are On....

(2007 GMC SIERRA 1500 SCLB 2wd) So the title pretty much says it all. This happened going through some deep snow once; shut the truck off at the nearest gas station, restarted it and it went away.....One year later I come out to my truck, drive it to the Cafe for morning coffee, then going back out to the truck upon starting it, these lights come on. The brakes are working fine and re starting the truck has no effect. I drive it to work, and check it one more time. Shut it off, and restart it... The lights didn't come back on...SWEET RIGHT!? I work all day come out to my truck start it, and the dang lights are on again.... Restarting it does nothing again. SO, I pop the hood, and notice I am down on Brake fluid a little bit, but still in the usable range. I drive it home this way, and once home put some fluid in and restart it..... The lights go away, and now....2mos later The fluid level is at max, the brakes work fine, but those darn lights are on again! WTF!? any Ideas... my idea is an ABS sensor or something....

Mine did this same thing last week...my brakes are shot and I'm replacing them this weekend. I'm curious to see what others say about this.

If your ABS and BRAKE lights are both on, that means there's a problem with the ABS servo or the ABS system. It's a pricey piece at like $800. Yes, the brakes will work just fine but don't expect the ABS to work when it needs to.

Welp, if thats the case.... Who needs ABS!? I drove just fine without it for 12 years, and had to learn how to drive with it.... Can't imagine it will take long to unlearn. ABS isn't worth $800 to me, and I am kinda disapponted that at 66,000 miles the brake system would require more than pads/shoes....

aren't you under warranty? go get the abs fixed at the dealer and cough up for 200 for brakes and rotors

I have the new pads, but the pads that are on it are not bad. I am still under powetrain warranty, but I don't think brakes fall under powertrain.

the abs will...pads themselves no...if the abs is not under warranty your dealer should fix it out of goodwill, abs isen't something that should go out at 66k

SO maybe I should have them pull the codes, and find out exactly what the deal is. Then go from there. DO they use something newer than OBDII?

uh yeah, don't chuck parts at it or drive without abs...its not safe and if it were my broke the lights on the dash would drive me to drink

Driving with no ABS is fine, the ABS just wont kick in. The brakes function fine. If the ABS is kicking in, but malfunctioning thats an entirely different story. It will either be covered by warranty or I am not going to fix it..... unless by some miracle the part costs under $100. This is exactly why I was hesitant to buy a newer vehicle.... more crap to go wrong. I will swing by the dealer tonight and see what they say.

Am I really the only one having this particular problem?

My 99 GMT800 2500 had the ABS electronic module go belly up a few months after the 1 yr warranty ran out. It's a little Iphone sized epoxy potted block that sets on the ABS motor under the driver, mounted to the frame. $800 sounds about right. Mine had the ABS motor/pump start running when I started it in the driveway and wouldn't shut off even after I shut it down and removed the key. I finally had to pull the 60 amp fuse to get it to quit. Then I drove it around for a few days before I took it to the stealer.

you probably have an abs speed sensor issue(located on each fron thub) You can use any obd 2 scanner to pull the code. Chances are the code is a c0245 wheel speed sensor frequency. Those sensors get the smallest amount of corrosion or dirt in them and they throw the frequency the sensor puts out, out of whack.

If your 2wd is like mine your system is as follows, the EBCM(electronic brake control module) gets signals from the front 2 abs speed sensors and the speed senor itself located in the trans. Thats it. Very small chance the EBCM is bad. You will get a code for the ebcm not responding if thats the case. You can buy the front speed sensors for 5o bucks each at napa and the tranny speed sensor is onnly like 20 bucks. The only way to tell which sensor is bad is to have a scanner(like our genisys) and watch the sensors frequencies while driving.

My abs and brake light just came on the other day go figure lol( i have 55k) so I just bought the front sensors and am replacing them tomorrow. (my right front was bad) but Id rather replace both up front anyway
