DigUout Posted September 28, 2001 Posted September 28, 2001 Got an e-mail with this riddle about a year ago and never found/figured out the answer. Anybody know? "There are 3 words in the English language that end with the letters -ngry. They are all common, everyday words. Two of them are hungry and angry. Can you think of the third?" This has been bugging me everytime I think of it! Be very grateful if anyone could tell me the third word! ??? Thanks!
MadFish Posted September 28, 2001 Posted September 28, 2001 I was told the answer once, but I dont remember what it was.
96 Vortec Posted September 28, 2001 Posted September 28, 2001 The answer is in the way the riddle is worded. I think that this is one of the many mutilated versions. I don't remember the correct riddle or the exact answer. I just remember that the answer ended up being the first three words in the riddle.
chevy4x4trucks Posted September 28, 2001 Author Posted September 28, 2001 the answer to this riddle is LANGUAGE. The riddles first sentence is meant to confuse you. The second says there are three "words". Notice how it doesn't say "ENDING" in "gry". So the correct answer to this riddle is; The third word is language. Nancy.> > > > > > > I understand there are only three words in > > the > > > > > > english language that end in "ngry". I know > > there > > > > is > > > > > > "angry" and "hungry". What is the third? > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > Thanks alot. It's not actually -ngry it's just -gry Here's the correct wording "There are three words in the English language that end in GRY. Two are HUNGRY and ANGRY. The third one everyone uses every day and knows what it stands for. If you listened carefully, I already told you what the word is."
Frank S Posted September 29, 2001 Posted September 29, 2001 That's just it....if I remember correctly the word is "Gry". I was asked this riddle a while back and finally got pizzed enough to where I actually researched it and "Gry" is the answer to the riddle.
DigUout Posted September 29, 2001 Posted September 29, 2001 Quote from Mervz, posted on Sep. 28 2001,9:21 I still don't get it... ??? Me either!!:stupid: I thought there was a third word that ended with "-ngry"
Frank S Posted September 30, 2001 Posted September 30, 2001 Ok The way the riddle is supposed to be told is: There are 3 words in the English Language that end In GRY. One is angry and another is hungry, but what is the third word? You see, with the way it is worded above, your mind processess the riddle as Ending in NGRY when in all actuality if you read the riddle when it is properly stated,it states just as I have phrased it above. There are only 2 words in the English Language that end in "ngry" and both are listed above but if you can get past the trickery of the phrasing of the sentence, you will see than the letter "n" is not factored into the riddle. That is where the third word "gry" comes into play as the answer.
quadcab4x4 Posted September 30, 2001 Posted September 30, 2001 Like "grey", is that it? :stupid: I still hate riddles
Shaners Posted September 30, 2001 Posted September 30, 2001 So is what you're saying is that the other word is "Gry". I have no idea what gry means, and neither does my Websters Dictionary...
DigUout Posted September 30, 2001 Posted September 30, 2001 Well Frank's explanantion makes the most sense. As I don't have the e-mail any more I can't refer back to the exact wording and I was thinking it said "NGRY". Can't tell you how many times that riddle pops into my head when I'm driving, mowing the lawn, etc. Like Shaner's said, my Webster's doesn't include "Gry" as a word either, but after all this time I'm not going to let it make me angry anymore. Guess I was too hungry for the answer to see the forest for the trees!! ;)
Frank S Posted September 30, 2001 Posted September 30, 2001 Timeout Apparently I found some bad info the first time I searched for the answer to this riddly several months ago. The answer to the riddle is not "gry" as I previously stated because as it has been brought up before, gry is not a word. Check this link for an in depth explanation of the answer to this riddle. http://www.greece.k12.ny.us/taylor/topics/grypuzzle.htm
