New Front Pads And Rotors Gmt-900

Got front pads and rotors (Raybestos AT) last week and installed in less than two hours, taking my time, over the weekend. Have the FSM so it was pretty straightforward. I wanted to share my experience with everyone thinking about doing the job themselves. If you have the time and a repair guide (Haynes, Chilton, FSM) I would suggest giving it a go. While I assume no responsibility for your work, I would encourage you to think about doing it yourself. After removing the wheels, it's simply a matter of removing four bolts, securing the caliper with a hanger, removing old pads and rotor, applying lube to pins and brake parts, and putting it all back together. All in all, I'd rate it a 4/10 in terms of difficulty. For reference, I would rate an oil and filter change a 2/10.

If DIY is something you are into, it gives you the opportunity to learn more about your truck. And, while you’re at it, you can always change the oil and level the front end (hehe).

Mechanic wanted $500. My parts cost $200 for pads, rotors, and lube.

If you have any questions, let me know. Be glad to help.

Disc Brakes are the easiest thing for a DIYer..... Until the froze piston in the caliper happens...... Then your up against bleeding the brakes....... A first timer at bleeding brakes is quite funny........ I get them all the time at work.

Never forget the rear disc brakes if the caliper serves as the park brake... YOU NEED A special tool to push the piston back in. (IT DOES NOT PUSH BACK IT TURNS BACK)!!!! I have seen Clamps F$*# up good calipers over this.
