Tranny Temp Gauge Vs Sg/af?

SUB in sig *MUST* have a tranny temp gauge before I tow (7000#), PERIOD! While I could simply add a simple gauge/sender/pillar mount and plumb it all in, I can't help but think a tool like the Scangauge or Interceptor could be doubly informative & useful for not a whole lot more $$. Either could also be used on 2 other OBDII equipped vehicles in the stable. It's a no brainer up to the point of reading vendors disclaimers that their products will read certain parameters *ONLY IF* broadcast... with no mention of the exact parameters for a specific year/model they *WILL* read!

I've searched until I'm blue, with no definitive answer, so here goes...

#1 - The '99+ 4L80E is somehow different than earlier years? Single PCM vs separate engine & tranny computers? This assumption based on the cheapo "electronic shift aids" (B&M ShiftPlus) stopping at '98, post OBDII, but claiming to control earlier models back to '93, OBDI...

#2 - The '99 4L80E should still be sending the tranny temp to the PCM (for a variety of reasons), just no provisions for plug/play tranny temp gauge/cluster swap like NBS?

#3 - Can anyone definitively say either the Scangauge or Interceptor will display tranny temp for my setup?

:D
