What's the worst weather I could drive in?

Reg Cab Sportside 3.42 open differential. I'm living in Virginia Beach Virginia, so weather doesn't get too bad most of the time, but I'm thinking that anything worse than a heavy rain and I may be in trouble.

Just take your time and you'll get along just fine.  Try to stay on level roads, and don't try to start out on a hill.

 

Just be very careful in the "Ice Storms".  Of course on ice covered roads, chains or studs are the only thing that really works...

Best thing i can offer as well is just take your time.. My truck doesnt do too bad in the snow in 2wd but the second i rush i lose it! I d also recommend throwing some weight in the back just to give you a little more of advantage!

when i had my 90 2wd i just filled up the back of the bed with sand bags(whole bottom so they didn't slide)  I also had good tread so I got through everything I needed too.  Once or twice I accidently stopped on ice and my tires would just spin.  Other than that 2wd will do most anything a 4x4 will do.  (this was during the blizzard we had last year also, MI)

My wife used to have a Miata without positraction.  I put 4 awesome Pirelli snowtires on it and a bit of weight in the trunk and the Miata went places better than my front wheel drive 626 with all weather tires.  Once we were driving home in two cars during a snowstorm.  We left the freeway, I parked the 626, and drove the Miata home with much better traction.

 

Anyway, our parents (or grandparents for you younger members) always got through with just RWD in their Chevies, Fords, Chryslers, and Ramblers.

Ive made it through a few blizzards with 2wd and open diff.

 

One blizzard i had a 97 gmc sonoma with a 4 liter

 

Other 2 i had a 92 S-10 and 87 blazer

 

Drive slow and be cautious and you will be fine

Being in VA Beach, you shouldn't have to worry too much about the weather.

 

Every part of VA Beach I can remember being to was relatively flat. So unless you do much travelling outside of the Hampton Roads area, I think you'll be ok.

 

You probably should worry more about what the Ocean Spray will do to your finish!

Yes I do worry about it. 02Blue gets washed and polished often. Got washed today as a matter of fact.

My girlfriend's '94 Silverado 2wd/Open doesn't do so hot in the snow.   I put 6 - 80lb sand bags in the bed, kept behind the fenders, and she got her tires siped.  With that setup she does pretty good until she gets to my driveway - which is 1/4 mile long, climbs over 150 feet and is as straight as Ell.... well... lets keep it clean and just say it's not very straight  She slides around alot but is not immobile until the driveway.

 

My reccomendation.  Stay on more-traveled roads in the snow and ice, and avoid hills

I went through a winter here w/ a 2wd s-10, never got it stuck.  It's possible, just get lots of sand bags.  That summer I traded the truck in for a 4x4 silverado.  I didn't want to do that evey winter.
