Intermediate Steering Shaft Requires Bushing Replacement As Well?

Recommended Posts

I have received the dorman intermediate steering shaft for my 2000 GMC 2500 nbs and would like to install it this week. However, in reading through the various bits of information on this subject I have come across a suggestion that the plastic bushing that the shaft passes through needs to be replaced as well to totally eliminate the clunking long-term. Something about the 'green' bushing being better or updated in some way.

Anybody know anything about this, does this bushing need to be replaced as well? Is there some sort of updated bushing available?

Thanks

There is an updated bearing. The orginal is white, the new and improved is blue. Sometimes this bearing is the problem as well.

I replaced mine along with the GM updated shaft two (2) years ago. I have had NO issues since.

I installed the Doorman intermediate shaft only and this fixed the steering knock problem on my 2006 GMC Sierra.
