Roll On Bed Liner

I have a 05 Silverado 1500 with a 6.5' bed and it needs a liner bad! I looked at some spray in liners but they run at lease $400. I've seen advertisements for do it yourself roll on rhino liners and was curious if anyone has tried them? Any info would be greatly appreciated!

Not on a truck, I have used the roll on bedliner to coat the bottom of a flat bottom jon boat and it worked great to seal up the leaky old rivets and made it a lil quieter but I have to admit it was ugly. Not sure I would use it on a truck unless it was an old beater.

I used a DIY spray in kit. It was called Raptor bedliner made by U-POL. Came with 4L bottles of liner and 1L of hardener and a spray gun. Bought it on Ebay for $110 including shipping. Seems to work OK so far. Sprayed really good and looks decent. The liner isn't all that thick and looks like it might scratch off if you drag a bunch of steel on it. It covered my hurculiner (that peeled off) pretty well. I used a homemade bed mat on the bottom (old conveyor belt) to protect it. I would use it again. (may have to for some touch ups).

I have used all kinds of different DIY bedliner kits and this one has held up the best so far. Just remember, "It's all about the prep work"

That stated, not home kit can compare to LINE-X or Rhino Liner.

I used it on some homemade jeep steps and it started to peel off in a week. Could have been the fact that it was on a :uhoh: JEEP.

Pic of steps on jeep included.

If you're bound and determined to do the DIY bedliner, get the two part polyurethane or epoxy type stuff. Don't use the roll on type like Hurculiner/Duraback or Duplicolor stuff. Not very durable.

There's a few people on Ebay selling some two part liner kits. We used some "Liner Extreeme" stuff on the outside bottom of a stock trailer, and it's held up good. Over two years now and holding up well.

Preparation is key, lots of sanding and use some MEK to wipe down the paint before spraying.

Another good product is the SEM stuff, but you don't get as much sprayable material for the money.

Well it sounds like these roll ons are not the way to go. What does everyone else use? A Rhino type spray on or just go with a plastic one?

I got Line-X sprayed in for $395. I had them do it over the rails and it very durable. It will fade slightly over time but will not get chalky. They said after a year to come back and they can spray a protected on it to bring back the shine and warranty it for another 3yrs.

ive had buddies that had rhino/line x. either one if you turn corners, stuff in the back will slip and slide. to me, line-x seemed more durable and from what i hear and seen, line x seems like it held up pretty nicely over the years. rhino = more rubbery compared to line x = harder/plasticy

I had the bed of my Dodge 3500 dually Line-x'd over the raisl when I got it. I did have them add the stuff that keeps it form fading. When I traded it in on my Silverado 5 yrs later, the bed still looked like it did right after they sprayed it, except for a few nicks (not all the way thru) where I had drug some axles & engine blocks out of the bed.

Worth the money in my opinion.

i too have the herculiner in my truck, I bought enough stuff to do 2 trucks and did mine twice. It is not as tough as the spray in products but if you take your time and do it right it turns out just fine. Mine has been in for 4yrs with no peeling and no problems. I will prob get a spray in next time just because of all the construction material that goes into my truck it takes a little more of a beating than the average truck. But dont be affaid to try the herculiner it is a good product.

There are some mixed reviews about Herculiner. I say avoid it. It peels and after a few years, it just rubs off and gets on everything that you put in the bed of your truck and it doesn't wash off those things too easily. I would just save up for Line-X.
