branden.mainil Posted April 21, 2010 Posted April 21, 2010 hey i have an 09 5.3 silverado and i was wondering if i could strait pipe it or without screwing anything up like scensors going off or not enough back pressure, i no it kinda sounds a little red neck but its like a 1000 bucks cheeper so i could do other stuff to my truck, and i also cant find an exhaust system loud enough for my liking.
asilverblazer Posted April 21, 2010 Posted April 21, 2010 You can from the catalytic convertors back.
jro909 Posted April 21, 2010 Posted April 21, 2010 you know whats cheaper a new muffler and its less tackey
Nytemare Posted April 21, 2010 Posted April 21, 2010 Most cat back exhausts are like 800 bones shipped to your door...so how can it be 1000 bucks cheaper to straight pipe it? Now you need 2 mufflers, 2 sets of pipes and a whole pile of welding, bending and cutting time up under the truck. Get your self an MBRP Single 3" if you want it loud and also to make power...duals will just make you lose power. Or even cheaper, you can just cut out your factory muffler and toss a piece of straight pipe in there, or just a turndown on the end of the intermediate pipe to make it even louder.
Dank Xploidz Posted April 22, 2010 Posted April 22, 2010 Yes you can. Just do true duals from the cats back. I live in south carolina(truck work is fairly cheap). I got true duals from the headers back. 2 1/4 inch pipe all the way, with 12 inch 3 1/2 inch slash cut tips for $130 dollars. No one runs mufflers where I live. it's all about strait pipes.
branden.mainil Posted April 22, 2010 Author Posted April 22, 2010 ha sorry guys i guess i should have been mors specific, what i want to do is cut out the mufler and put in a piece of pipe there, still keeping the cat and everything and then buying a nice tip... and the exhaust i was looking at was borla and it was like 1200 to get it shipped here
Dank Xploidz Posted April 22, 2010 Posted April 22, 2010 Yea you can do it easily. You wouldn't have any problems.
dirtfan21 Posted April 26, 2010 Posted April 26, 2010 Yea you can do it easily. You wouldn't have any problems. +1 I have a '07 GMT 900 and did this exact thing. If you like it loud then you will like it. Not cracklely just throaty and loud. Most on here just give you an opinion of what they like and usually it is against anything loud for the most part. Sorry it is not tackey to like something loud, crackley and ridiculous, then yes I would agree. If you like the straight pipe sound then do it. I have lost not MPG that I have noticed and I drive 500 miles every other weekend, so I would know. I have lost no HP or Torque that I can feel and trust me I paid close attention to this issue. These things are so locked up with cats and resonators that the mufflers are really just sound deadeners. I know, my opinion but, if it really caused harm then why would GM allow ANYTHING CAT BACK to not void warrenty. Especially with all the AFM components in the motor. Sorry for ranting. Long story short if you want it loud and to save money do it. It cost me $60 bucks.
Nytemare Posted April 26, 2010 Posted April 26, 2010 Yeah....as long as you keep it single pipe you wont lose any power or MPG to speak of.
