Electric Brake Controller

I have an 06 Seirra that has the towing package on it. I'm going to be using a friend's travel trailer for a week and need to add the electric brake controller to my truck. I got a quote from a local mechanic to install the controller for $350.00 but a friend told me they will just plug in under my dash and that I shouldn't have to pay anyone to install it.. Is there a way I can check before I spend the $350.00?

There is a small 'black cover' under the dash in the top left corner of the driver's side...remove the cover and it will contain several connectors.

The brake controller will plug into one of those (I don't remember now which one). You will need the wire harness though, but you should be able to get that from any dealership. Connect the brake controller to the wireharness and plug in.

If you friend has a '99-2006 (maybe the early 07's), you could always just borrow their brake controller. Unplug the wire harness and install. Litterally takes just a few minutes. Non-gm truck, you'll have to get your own wire harness and controller.

$350 seems steep to me.

Thanks for the quick response. Her truck is a 97 Tahoe so sounds like the harness would be wrong. I think I have enough to run with, thanks!
