Replace Rear Brake Line

Recommended Posts

Posted

My rear brake line rusted out and needs to be replaced. I am wondering if I should do it myself or pay someone around $200 to do it. I am pretty good at mechnic work, but dont know if it is just worth paying someone else. I was also wondering if I do it myself, do I need to bleed the ABS module? The line does not connect directly to the BPMV, but the system would have air in it after replacing the hard line to the rear. Does the BPMV generally need to be bleed after replacing a rear line? Any good tips if I decide to replace the line myself?

shouldn't have any issues with the ABS module unless you run the master cylinder dry.

replacing the lines isn't overly complex, you'll need a tubing bender, tubing cutter and flare set. Most auto zone stores should have these available as loaner tools. Just use the old lines as a template.

i would check around but the NTSB was just on GM's a$$ about a possible recall on rusted break lines on 98+ trucks.. saw a quick article about it..
