Finally I have cruise control added to my NBS Sierra W/T .

Since there are threads out there, but are hard to follow, this is what I know

Info pulled from various threads, so thanks to all who contributed)

1) These are the items needed to add cruise

- Clock spring - part# 15829094 & is called a Coil

- Column wiring harness

(PT# with Towing: 25807859 & PT# without Towing: 25807858)

- Steering wheel with cruise buttons (e-bay or salvage yard) I have heard about people adding the buttons to their wheel, but not sure about wiring and cutting issues.

2) When installing all the items, disconnect your battery so the air bag doesn’t deploy. To remove the air bag, there are 2 holes in the wheel housing you can use a small flathead to pop the retaining arms with (one or both at a time)

*Note: Regular cab W/T series do not have the same wiring as all the other trucks, so the backlighting will need to be connected through the fuse box on the left side of the dash. (Install a 2.5 amp fuse and connect the light brown wire (may be different on other years) to the dash light’s wiring harness since there is no spot to add a fuse in the fuse box. It is off white with a blue bracket that clamps to hold the harness together. If you undo the harness, look for the dark brown wire. Careful, because there is a black w/ white stripe and a black wire. Make sure you get the brown wire. Cut it close to the fuse box, and tap it onto the dash lights. This will light up all wheel buttons.

3) Once all the items are installed find a dealership who will deal with this as most don’t. When you have one, have the service writer call the GM Techline and explain that you want cruise added ask them what procedures are needed to add cruise. A couple of years ago GM supported adding cruise to the NBS trucks, then stopped supporting it at all, and now as of September 09 they have started supporting it as long as there is correct documentation of the parts that have been added. Most service writers have to try a few times before the paperwork is correct, as Gm is extremely picky about the documentation! You must have the following, and it has to be written up on a single service work order saying the dealer installed the parts. Here it is:

1. Receipt of purchase for Steering wheel. (LKQ, E-bay, or GM Parts Direct)

2. Receipt of purchase for clock spring.

3. Receipt of purchase for column wiring harness.

4. Receipt of where dealer installed all items (Dealer may need to make one)

(Don’t bother arguing that your truck already has the needed wiring harness! They do not care! You must provide a receipt for the harness, regardless of whether you use it or not!)

4) Fax this documentation to them, and they will have a new CAL file available for your truck around 3 hours. It would probably be best if the service writer calls them and request the new CAL. After they have processed your request and assigned a new CAL it will permanently be updated in their records for your truck's VIN. So, in the event your BCM goes bad, when the tech installs a new BCM and downloads your CAL file it will automatically add cruise to your BCM.

The cost is 2 hours of shop time at the dealer, and a $55.00 software fee to total around $200.

My truck didn't have the harness for radio controls. I think if you have cruise already they will work. I am trying to find out if i can use the unused pigtale off the new wire harness to tap into the OEM radio.

does your photo illustrate the new harness or existing w/t harness? Also, is the purshase of the steering wheel for the sole purpose of adding the controls? Or can you just purchase the controls (mainly the left side /cruise only) and add to existing w/t wheel?

The pics show how the W/T harness doesn't have the wires needed for the closk spring. Please find attached a pick of the lower portion of the harness which has an additional black plug that i think may go to the radio controls.

So who else has done this through the dealership

Good post EXSlider400

My truck came with cruise but one time I had been in washing my truck at the dealership the mechanic in the next bay was adding cruise to a new truck, one guy had ordered a plain truck and later wanted cruise.

Not sure on the cost but the dealerships does this at least in Canada (I think it was the signal light addition)

Ok, during an internet search I came here & joined just for this topic.
And I want to tell everyone that it can still be done.

I bought a 2007 nbs Silverado crew cab 4x4 WT "new" in February of 2008.

It did not have factory cruise, and the dealer sent it to a local shop to have an aftermarket cruise installed at no extra cost to me.
It worked great until this last year ( 2015 ), when I went past 100,000 miles.

Then it started to give me trouble.
The finial straw was when it fried a computer board & set off the security feature that all these
trucks have. It would not allow me to start & drive my truck, It had to be towed & the computer & a fuse were replaced.

Oh ya, as a side note if your driving & a yellow dummy light comes on your instrument cluster that looks like a
padlock on a car don't shut the engine off.
If the light is not blinking & is on solid, once you shut the engine off it is dead as a door nail.
The door locks work, so does the radio lights etc, you just can't restart your truck.

The 2nd time it happened the dealership said it was only the fuse but the after market cruise had to be disconnected.

I use my cruise control daily. It has saved me from a lot of speeding tickets over the years.
And I really missed it.

So I did a search & found this information and I thought I'd try to put it into effect.

I told my local Chevy dealer service writer that I found this post & that it could be done.
And asked him if he'd give it a try and he said he'd do his best but they had never done this before.

I tried to get a used steering wheel from LKQ. But the one they got in for me was the wrong one.
was real dirty & they wanted to charge me double what they originally said it would cost.( $80 instead of $40 )

Next I tried ebay, but there were only "new" ones on there & I could save between $27 & $42 just by using GM parts direct.

I'm kind of a picky guy and looking at a new steering wheel while I drive seemed more appealing to me.

So I purchased these items from GM Parts Direct:
Plain steering wheel with cruise ( 22947808 ).....$132.17
coil ( clock spring ) ....................( 25966963 ).....$111.63
Wiring harness w/ towing.......... ( 25807859 ).......$73.02
total parts...........$329.57

Then I gave the truck & parts to them on Monday January 18, 2016.
The service writer said he followed the directions I got off of this post.

He faxed & called to get them to create the CAL file & it took a full day to convince GM to do it.
He said it was like trying to buy Government top secret information.

On Tuesday January 19, 2016 they down loaded the programming into the truck & installed the
steering wheel & the coil ( clock spring ).

They did not use the new wiring harness. They used the one that was in there from the factory.
But they ran into some type of issue with the original harness.

They called to ask me what I wanted done. My choices were for them to make the necessary modification at double the price.
Or they could just put it back the way it was & the cruise would not be working.
So I bit the bullet & doubled down.

So I probably have the most expensive OEM style cruise control in any Silverado.
the GM program fee was $50
The installation went from $300.65 to a whopping $601.31 + tax
All total...... parts, download & labor, it cost me...... $984.38

Seems to be working just fine. Not sure how long it will work, but if it stops before I trade this truck in I'll come back & let everyone know when it died.

You provided a wiring harness that they didn't use. Then they ran into problems and wanted you to pay extra to install the part they were given to begin with?

I'd tell them to take a long walk off a tall cliff.

I just added cruise to my 2007 Silverado (GMT900 07-13).

1) Download service bulletin PIT4844H Adding Cruise Control (RPO K34).

At this point, you can either take it to a dealer, an Auto Shop or install the parts yourself then have the BCM reflashed.   A dealer will not reflash your BCM unless they install all your GM parts.

2) Locate an Auto Shop that maintains a subscription to TIS2Web.  The Auto Shop will need to reflash your BCM.  I believe ACDelco permanently records the added RPO into its records.

3) Locate an online GM Wholesale Parts site and purchase the following parts:  Regardless who installs the parts, you must KEEP THE RECEIPTS.

3a) 25966963 Steering Wheel SIR Coil (Clock Spring)

3b) 25807859 Steering Column Wiring Harness (-JL4 Active Brake)

3c) The Steering Wheel is discontinued so find a used one or add the switch to your steering wheel.  If you find a used steering wheel skip 3x, 3y, 3z.

3x) If you add the cruise switch to your existing steering wheel, you also need 25776048 Steering Wheel Wiring Harness from the GM Wholesale Parts site.  Its the harness that connects to the cruise switch.

3y) Purchase a Cruise Switch.  The Cruise Switch is sold in many places online.

3z) Look on YouTube how to modify your steering wheel with a Dremel.  Its not as hard as it sounds.

4) Purchase a Stop Lamp Switch.  These are infamous for going bad so assume yours is bad too.  When it goes bad, cruise does not work but the brake lamps work.  If you don't have cruise, you will never know.

5) Watch the many YouTube sites to help you install the harnesses and steering wheel.  Start with 1A Auto.

6) Install a 2a fuse between LBEC terminals K1 (DK BRN) and K2 (YEL).  The LBEC terminal block is the fuse panel on the drivers side of the IP.  Open the Driver door.  Take the LBEC out and put a fuse on the back side of the panel between those wires.  You can a) splice a fuse holder leads between the two wires or b) terminate a fuseholder leads into K1 and K2 using 15304711 terminals or c) do nothing at all.  This powers the Cruise symbol in the IP.  I spliced the wires a) more to the center of the IP so I could access the fuse if needed to in the future.

7) To Reflash the BCM, the Auto Shop will need to call the Techline Support Center number listed on PIT4844.  They will only talk to a Technician.  They will not talk to you.  The Auto Shop will be asked for a receipt of your parts.  The Auto Shop may want to claim that they installed the parts.   Techline will give the Auto Shop a VCI number to enter into the flash tool.  Note:  In my case, Techline asked the Auto Shop Tech what the kit number was.  I believe there's no such thing.  Even the dealer and Wholesale Parts people had no idea when I followed up later.  Perhaps its the VCI number that Techline was responsible for issuing or a bug in the instructions.  In the end, Techline gave the Auto Shop Tech a kit number).
