1989 5.7 Ac Compressor Clutch/ Idle Issues

Recommended Posts

Hi all. My 1989 Chevy 1500 with 5.7, new AC compressor has a intermittent low idle, stall isssue with the AC on. When I check the IAC and observe the truck idling in park it acts normal, I have ohm checked the IAC, the engine coolant sensor . The RPM is at 700 with compressor engaged and 650 when it clicks out. I also removed the IAC and looked thru the passage and did not see any carbon, but I did not remove the injector at this time.

The clutch clicks in and out approx. every 5 seconds, which seems too often. It has done this since the AC compressor was installed but I don't know how the truck acted before this either.

I have looked thru the books and all I can find is that it's either the IAC or the water temp, which I have checked hot and cold.

Any ideas ? Also the AC does work well, temp wise. Thanks

My stalling at low idle/stops was caused by a worn out distributor...

So was the wear in the bushings and shaft, and caused it to have a weak spark maybe ? I have replaced the ignition module a few years ago that would cause it to die suddenly and would not restart until it cooled down.
